Direct Support Professional (for Employment Skills) - Staten Island

AHRC NYC is looking to hire an Direct Support Professional for their Day Programs in Staten Island.

The DSP plays a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities by providing comprehensive training, evaluations, and counseling. This position focuses on facilitating skill development and enhancing job readiness for participants in both job sites and community settings.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (hours may vary)

Salary: Starting at $17/hr ($18 after 6 months). Drivers start at $18.10/hr ($19.10 after 6 months).

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support individuals with disabilities in leading self-directed lives.
• Enhancing participant employability by instructing work behaviors and skills.
• Drive the agency vans to pick up and drop off individuals from home to day program and vice versa. 
• Complete daily progress reports.
• Develop and expand meaningful community opportunities.
• Work with the supervisor on developing and implementing an effective plan, and will ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations, agency policies, and agency values.

• Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
• Able to stay calm, show empathy, and provide thoughtful support to individuals with disabilities.
• NYS Driver's License Required. 
• Reasonable flexibility in work hours and ability to respond to the scheduling needs of the individual.
• High School diploma or GED is required.
