Job Description

AHRC New York city is seeking a Pre-Employment Director for their Employment and Business Services Team. AHRC NYC’s Employment and Business Services team seeks to prepare people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for employment. The Pre-Employment Director leads the design, implementation, and oversight of pre-employment programs that empower individuals with disabilities to build job readiness, develop transferrable skills, and transition into meaningful employment.

SALARY: $80,000 per year.

Essential Responsibilities: The Pre-Employment Director will be responsible for the following duties:

Program Supervision:

  • Directly oversee the work of all assigned staff and participants in pre-employment programming [including Project SEARCH, the Partnership for Inclusive Internships, Train & Earn, work-readiness workshops, and ACCES-VR vocational training groups]
  • Oversee key program staff under multiple grants and contracts
  • Participate in the process of hiring staff and when appropriate, participate in disciplining and terminating staff
  • Coordinate orientation and training of new programs staff
  • Perform annual employee evaluations
  • Assume responsibility of orientation of new staff and ensure that comprehensive training of all staff occurs
  • Assign staff to attend outside conference and training as needed

Program Operations:

  • Directly oversee the programmatic operations of pre-employment programming-
  • Coordinate programs to ensure appropriate expertise in meeting participant needs 
  • Participate in identifying resources and linkages in the community for participants, families and staff 
  • Develop and implement job readiness training to prepare participants for the workforce
  • Develop internship sites in the appropriate sector; travel to job sites
  • Manage program budgets
  • Manage employment initiatives related to pre-employment programming
  • Ensure that ongoing individual and group counseling to individuals based on individual treatment plans
  • Ensure that ongoing follow-up services to individuals and employers are rendered in the most efficient, and highest quality manner

Relationship Building:

  • Build collaborative relationships with community partners, employers, and a diverse group of stakeholders-
  • Manage the ongoing development and coordination of services between the community and AHRC NYC
  • Serve as a primary liaison between staff, participants, families, community members, and service providers
  • Hold standing check-in meetings to review progress, challenges, and new initiatives
  • Engage community in partnership to support participant achievement and align resources
  • Spearhead the growth of the PII Program in both City and State-wide initiatives, and the growth of the Project SEARCH footprint in Manhattan
  • Manage the relationship and contract with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development
  • Manage the relationship and contract with the NY State Department of Labor and the Office of the Chief Disability Officer
  • Manage the relationship and contract with the NYC Talent and Workforce Development Corporation
  • Develop and lead committees, as needed

Administrative Deliverables

  • Collect meaningful data to track program success
  • Ensure that all contract goals are achieved and surpassed, when possible
  • Assist with the evaluation of program and participant performance 
  • Evaluate and monitor the service delivery of goals and objective as set forth by different contractors (NYC Talent and Workforce Development, DYCD, State partners)
  • Ensure timely filing of all reports related to pre-employment initiatives (ACCES-VR, OPWDD, NYSCB, etc)
  • Ensure compliance with all filing related to pre-employment programs
  • Attend management and supervisory meetings as required
  • Incident review responsibility

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must have at least a Bachelor degree with relevant experience; or An Associates degree with five years of relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years working with people with disabilities
  • Experience with program design or curriculum development required
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Experience managing a project budget
  • Solid organizational and multi-tasking skills, and proven ability to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations
  • Clearance of all background checks and fingerprints
