Position Summary:
Akicita Federal is seeking a skilled and compassionate Dental Assistant to join our team at the Sisseton IHS Service Unit. The ideal candidate will support dental staff in providing high-quality oral healthcare services to the Native American community. This role is critical to ensuring efficient, patient-centered dental operations and supporting the overall mission of the Indian Health Service.
Key Responsibilities:
-Prepare dental operatory with necessary instruments and materials for each patient visit.
-Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, including general, pediatric, and preventive dentistry.
-Take and process digital dental radiographs (X-rays).
-Maintain patient comfort and safety throughout procedures.
-Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment in compliance with infection control protocols.
-Record treatment information in patient records using Electronic Dental Records (EDR).
-Provide patients with oral hygiene instructions and post-treatment care guidance.
-Manage dental supply inventory and notify staff of low stock or needed equipment.
-Ensure clinical areas meet all cleanliness and safety standards.
-Collaborate with the dental team and support administrative duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
-High School Diploma or GED
Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential preferred
-Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program or equivalent work experience
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (must be current and valid)
-Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA standards, including infection control practices
-Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity to the Native American population
-Ability to pass a federal background check and drug screening
