Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician to join our team at the White Earth Service Unit. The MT/MLT will provide emergency and routine laboratory services to eligible patients of all ages, including children, adults, and the elderly. The ideal candidate will perform specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Specimen Collection and Preparation:
-Collect specimens from patients across all age groups.
-Prepare and process specimens for routine testing or package them for referral to external laboratories.
Laboratory Testing:
-Perform and monitor routine and specialized tests in areas such as microbiology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and serology.
-Calibrate and operate analytical instruments independently.
-Interpret and evaluate test results, recognizing deviations from normal values.
-Repeat tests when results are inconsistent and report abnormalities to the supervisor.
Quality Control and Assurance:
-Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products.
-Troubleshoot and resolve quality control issues as needed.
-Participate in laboratory proficiency testing and quality assurance programs.
-Perform preventive maintenance on all instruments and identify the need for external service when necessary.
Compliance and Safety:
-Adhere to all laboratory procedures and safety protocols, including infection control practices.
-Use personal protective equipment to protect against exposure to infectious diseases.
-Follow accreditation standards, IHS policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
Documentation and Reporting:
-Complete and file laboratory reports accurately and in a timely manner.
-Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and results obtained.
Administrative Duties:
-Order and maintain laboratory supplies.
-Keep the laboratory area clean, organized, and safe.
-Assist in the continuous quality improvement programs of the clinic.
Professional Conduct:
-Provide services in a professional and respectful manner to patients and colleagues.
-Stay current with developments in medical terminology, laboratory practices, and related disciplines.
Qualifications:
Certification and Licensure:
-Valid ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
State licensure, if required.
-Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience:
-Minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience in:
-Phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures.
-Accessioning and specimen preparation.
-Specimen analysis and reporting within a clinical laboratory or medical center setting.
Technical Proficiency:
-Proficient in calibrating and operating analytical instruments.
-Skilled in interpreting and evaluating laboratory test results.
-Fluent in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English.
Knowledge and Skills:
-Strong understanding of medical terminology and laboratory practices.
-Knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, physiology, and anatomy.
-Familiarity with quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance procedures.
-Ability to address age-specific needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Working Conditions:
Schedule:
-Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
-Monday to Friday with varied shifts between 7:00 AM and 6:30 PM.
-Excludes all federal holidays.
-Overtime is not authorized.
Environment:
-Clinical laboratory setting within the White Earth Service Unit.
-Must adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment as required.
