Amyris is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to drive the execution of marquee technical development projects that are critical to the organization’s success. These projects encompass the entire lifecycle, from strain engineering to scale-up and manufacturing, and require seamless coordination of highly cross-functional teams to achieve strategic objectives and deliver measurable business value.
In addition to managing complex projects, this individual will act as a thought leader in establishing effective Project and Portfolio Management frameworks, such as systems to track resources and deploy them efficiently across a portfolio.
The ideal candidate is a high-level strategic thinker with extensive experience leading diverse and impactful projects in well-established organizations with a strong project management culture. They will bring a robust understanding of best practices while skillfully adapting them to the unique demands of a lean, fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities:- Establish and communicate clear goals and success criteria for projects, ensuring alignment with company OKRs.
- Working with subject matter experts, build cross-functional timelines for the execution of the program activities, dependencies, milestones, deliverables, and critical path.
- Collaborate closely with leaders from all functional areas to ensure cohesive project execution and smooth hand-offs between teams.
- Ensure that projects are on schedule by setting appropriate deadlines, and monitoring/adjusting to accommodate challenges that arise.
- Ensure that the project is operating within budget and escalate scope changes when appropriate.
- Identify and escalate risks; identify opportunities for acceleration of recognition of business value.
- Enable timely resolution of issues, provide information needed for an informed strategic action, and drive the discussion to achieve alignment.
- Establish a cadence of strategic reviews for projects, recommending a path forward to maximize value of the project to the business.
- Champion effective decision-making, in alignment with project milestones, that is in the best interests of Amyris.
- Act as an effective peer coach to other project managers at the company.
Basic Qualifications:- A minimum of 10 years of project/program management experience, with a track record of leading cross-functional projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM field (such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Biochemistry).
- PMP certification.
- Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
- Demonstrated success in managing uncertainty in timelines and resourcing related to basic research.

- Skilled in emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity; able to skillfully bridge across diverse functions, organizational levels, and cultural differences in communication across countries.
- Equipped with a strong understanding of business operations and cross-functional collaboration, with the ability to align project execution with organizational goals.
- Experienced in leading cross-functional and globally dispersed teams.
- Knowledgeable in the basic sciences—fields such as biology, chemistry, and process engineering—to effectively manage complex, cross-functional projects/programs at Amyris.
- Adept in change management, with strong influencing and negotiation skills to ensure effective collaboration and project outcomes across all functional areas.
- An expert in a wide range of project management tools, software, methodologies, and frameworks, with a history of implementing practices to achieve exceptional results.

The pay range for this role is $162,500 to $242,500 (DOE). Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
