JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs professional nursing care for patients in a clinic setting, including nursing triage, nurse visits; initiates, plans, and evaluates nursing care and treatment plans; provides direction to licensed and unlicensed clinic staff.
Triage- Performs a nursing assessment and patient triage which includes prioritizing cases, providing medical advice, making complex referrals, providing test results, and problem-solving complex cases by handling patient telephone inquiries and walk-ins requesting care.
Other Clinical - Records medical histories using appropriate format; takes and records physiological measurements such as height and weight, temperature, and urinalysis; performs basic in-clinic laboratory tests, obtaining and processing specimens for outside laboratory analysis.
- Performs basic nursing procedures such as injections, skin tests, phlebotomy, and dressing changes; performs or assists with tests such as electrocardiograms, spirometry, and audiometry; assists physicians during examinations as needed.
- Performs additional clinic and non-triage nurse duties such as instructing patients in general and specific medical care and health issues, providing skilled nursing services and treatment, administering and/or dispensing medication and injections; performs nurse visits as required.
Administrative- Maintains awareness of current nursing protocols; participates in formulation/revision of protocols and practices; attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service education.
- Assists in the coordination of day-to-day clinic activities; orients, trains and directs other clinic staff in specific clinic operations and procedures.
- Maintains inventory and orders supplies, medications, controlled drugs, and equipment.
- Performs quality control by activities such as monthly quality control check log and maintaining update calibration and quality control check for medical instruments and equipment.
- Assists other assigned R.N.s in overseeing clinical programs such as tuberculosis, hepatitis B, and immunizations.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor of Science (B.S), one year of professional nursing experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bilingual/bicultural in an Asian language required.
Preferred qualifications- Commitment to working in the Asian community and to community health care with familiarity with community health clinics is preferred.
