Job Description:

The successful Staff Structural Analyst will work satellite mechanical/structure subsystem & payload non-recurring and recurring/sustaining efforts and activities including systems engineering, design, analysis, and testing.

The successful candidate will be innovative, creative, and challenge the status quo. He or she will work well in teams while also having the ability to lead a small team and to work assignments autonomously.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical analysis and design of space hardware. Preparation and review of system level strength & dynamic analyses to support trade studies, develop structure, mechanism, and component requirements. Define & execute mechanical testing requirements and procedures.
  • Perform mechanical/structure system & satellite payload equipment trade studies to determine optimal system architecture in terms of the system simplicity, performance, mass, and cost.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical/structure design documentation at system and payload equipment level: mechanical analysis reports, test procedures, and models.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate component or subsystem anomalies and failures, perform root-cause analysis, and provide resolution.
  • Develop mechanical/structure test plans and procedures, identify hardware needs, design of test set-ups.
  • Technical support for production and testing of satellite structure and associated subsystems including structure Static Load Testing and vibration testing of equipment and Satellites.
  • Review structural analyses for satellite subsystems
  • Manage environmental specification for mechanical environments.
  • Define system test requirements. Support system mechanical testing in Midland TX or outside facilities

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical/structure design and analysis of spacecraft.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. Higher degree is preferred.
  • Strong technical skill in design & analysis of satellite assemblies for launch and on-orbit environments in addition to design for manufacturability.
  • Strong technical skill in stress and dynamics for satellite assemblies in launch and orbital environments, including FEM computer methods using standard analytical tools and classical structural analysis methods. (NASTRAN preferred, other considered: ANSYS, Hyperworks).
  • Knowledge/experience of sine/random vibration and acoustic testing of aerospace flight hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with other engineers.
  • Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced & dynamic environment.
  • Must be US Citizen or Resident Green Card Holder
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID
