ABOUT THE ROLE
Avant Gardner hosts and produces a wide variety of events, and the numerous spaces on site can be utilized in limitless ways. The Production General Department reports to Production Management and is responsible for supporting the success of all events by arranging the venue for each show and assisting with load ins/outs.
Candidates for the Production General role should be thorough and reliable, with the ability to complete tasks to a high standard of safety and excellence with minimal supervision. Candidates should be skilled in a variety of tasks including staging, rigging, heavy machinery operation, power tools, cabling, etc.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to Production General Leads and Production Managers
- Perform load-ins/outs for shows, place items around venue as instructed
- Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.
- Maintain and reset venue in between shows by adjusting staging, building risers, repositioning equipment, managing cables and organizing inventory
- Hang and position AV equipment such as speakers, projectors, truss, lights, etc.
- Assist in-house and visiting scenic teams with rigging large decorations, signage and venue additions
- Communicate with run-of-show Production Managers before completing load-ins and beginning load-outs
- Review and internalize run-of-show schedule, backline information and production notes prior to each event
- Perform regular opening/running/closing site duties in addition to any event-specific duties assigned
- Provide support for incoming touring teams
- Assist the Technical Production teams with cabling, event equipment positions and moves and changeovers
- Support optimizing use of storage facilities on site and ensure all teams are clear on their designated storage areas such as bar, food & beverage, audio, lighting, and scenic.
- Ensure tidy working space at all times and support the Production and Operations teams in increasing efficiency and safety on site
DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2-3 years relevant entertainment, festival, or construction experience
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and use proactive problem solving
- A strong team-player willing to lend help to ad-hoc tasks at short notice
- Experience with heavy equipment operation
- Meets scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends, and possible holidays
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Experience with audio/lighting systems, backline equipment, projection technologies, streaming media technologies, staging, rigging, and power distribution
- Certifications in various safety and training courses
- Driver’s License
- Required proficiency in the Google Workspace suite, and its applications such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Drive- including Shared Drives, and Google Groups for seamless team communication.
Physical Factors and/or Environment
- Must be willing to work long shifts
- Must be willing to work outdoors (all seasons)
- Must be able to move, pull, carry or lift at least 75 pounds
- Must be comfortable working at heights and on supported scaffolding
- Must be comfortable working in an environment with moderate to loud noise level
COMPENSATION
The hourly rate/yearly salary for this position will range from $25/hr - $30/hr based on experience.
