Overview

We are seeking a CRE origination associate to be fully dedicated to our client, a New York City-based real estate high yield debt fund with several billion in assets under management.  The firm focuses on opportunistic and value-add debt and equity investments across asset classes in major and secondary markets throughout the U.S.

  

In this role, you will sit on-site at our client and work among their team.  The Associate will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of originating and structuring complex commercial real estate investments, including stretch senior mortgages, mezzanine loans, preferred equity, and common equity. You will take investments from initial inquiry through term sheet and collaborate with the underwriting team through the full due diligence and closing of the investments. 



Key Responsibilities
  • Real estate valuation and financial analysis, including modeling property and portfolio cash flows in Excel and ARGUS.
  • Conducting market research and analysis to support underwriting assumptions and investment strategies.
  • Developing market insights and effectively presenting your views to senior team members.
  • Analyzing and underwriting property-level operating history and financial statements to assess performance.
  • Preparing presentations and investment memoranda, evaluating investment structures, identifying strengths and risks, assessing market dynamics, and projecting investment returns.


Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in real estate investment banking, private equity, or related fields, with a strong preference for asset-level underwriting experience.
  • Advanced financial modeling expertise, with experience modeling commercial real estate (CRE) assets and capital structures.
  • Broad knowledge of multiple property types and their market dynamics.
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with Argus is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach to challenges.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset, grounded in integrity and a strong work ethic.


Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree required


Physical and Mental Demands

$150,000 - $175,000 a year
$150,000 - $175,000 base, plus discretionary bonus
Offered salary is based on a variety of factors, including skills, experience, and qualifications for the role.
