Our client is a leading international contractor specializing in large-scale civil infrastructure and marine construction. They are seeking a highly experienced Site Superintendent with a proven track record in immersed tunnel construction to oversee and manage on-site execution for a major infrastructure project in Iraq.
This role requires strong technical expertise, site leadership, and the ability to manage large-scale tunnel immersion projects in challenging environments. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth daily operations, compliance with engineering standards, and seamless execution of this high-profile project.

About the Project- The project involves the construction and installation of a large-scale immersed tunnel beneath a major waterway. Key aspects include:
- Precast tunnel elements – each approximately 125 meters long, weighing up to 46,000 tons.
- A complex immersion process, including floating, maneuvering, and precisely lowering elements into position using specialized engineering techniques.
- The use of advanced winch systems, catamaran pontoons, and immersion joint technologies to ensure structural integrity and watertight connections.
- The integration of this infrastructure into a regional transportation network, enhancing connectivity and economic development.
What You Will Do- Site Management & Execution
- Lead the on-site execution of the immersed tunnel project, ensuring work progresses according to schedule, budget, and technical specifications.
- Supervise daily site activities, including tunnel segment transport, positioning, and immersion operations.
- Coordinate closely with engineering, marine, and logistics teams to ensure seamless integration of work activities.
- Technical & Operational Oversight
- Oversee the safe and precise immersion of tunnel elements, ensuring compliance with all technical and engineering standards.
- Supervise marine operations, including floating, ballasting, and controlled sinking of tunnel sections.
- Monitor and optimize site logistics, equipment usage, and technical workflows to enhance efficiency.
- Stakeholder & Team Management
- Act as the primary on-site representative, coordinating between subcontractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
- Lead and mentor on-site construction teams, ensuring smooth communication and high-performance execution.
- Address technical challenges, unexpected delays, and operational risks, providing solutions to maintain project momentum.
- Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies, enforcing site safety regulations and environmental best practices.
- Oversee compliance with ISO regulations, environmental protection standards, and local legal requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety drills, and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.
How You Will Qualify- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Required).
- Additional certifications in Marine Construction, HSE Compliance, or Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2) are a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in large-scale civil infrastructure and marine projects.
- Extensive hands-on experience in immersed tunnel construction, including marine operations and geotechnical execution.
- Proven expertise in site supervision, subcontractor management, and construction logistics.
- Strong background in contractor coordination, risk management, and cost control.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of immersed tunnel methodologies, hydrodynamics, and marine engineering.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus).
Work & Location Requirements- Single Status, Camp-Based Role – Candidate must be willing to work under these conditions.
- Duration: Fixed-term contract until project completion (late 2025 or early 2026).
- Flexibility to work in a remote and challenging environment.
