Position Summary

We are seeking a results-driven and strategic Sales Director to build and lead our first-ever sales initiative. Reporting directly to the Chief Growth Officer, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the sales function from the ground up. The ideal candidate will be responsible for expanding our customer base while strengthening loyalty with existing customers—focusing on both long-term relationship building and near-term revenue growth.

This is a high-impact leadership role that requires a strong balance of strategy, execution, and team building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Strategy Development:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with CandleScience’s growth goals, focusing on customer acquisition and retention.
  • Customer Growth & Retention:
    • Develop and execute programs that drive customer success and retention within top-performing segments, while identifying new opportunities to deepen loyalty and maximize lifetime value across the customer base.
  • Team Building:
    • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing sales team as the initiative scales. Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance metrics.
  • Sales Process & Tools: 
    • Build foundational sales processes and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and optimize team performance.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with Marketing, Product, and Customer Support teams to align messaging, deliver customer insights, and optimize go-to-market strategies to drive customer success and revenue growth.
  • Customer Insights:
    • Leverage data and customer feedback to identify market trends, purchasing behaviors, and product opportunities that inform both sales and product strategy.
  • Reporting & Forecasting:
    • Deliver accurate sales forecasting, pipeline management, and regular performance reports to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of progressive sales leadership experience, preferably in B2B or eCommerce environments.
  • Demonstrated success in building or significantly scaling a sales function.
  • Experience working in a product-driven, customer-centric company.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficient with CRM platforms (e.g., Zendesk, Salesforce, etc.) and sales analytics tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in CPG, craft/hobby industries, or other passion-driven communities.
  • Background in launching loyalty or customer retention programs.
  • Familiarity with DTC and B2B hybrid sales models.
