At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you. We are actively seeking passionate, collaborative, energetic, and forward-thinking individuals to join our team.

We are looking to add a FPGA/DSP Engineering Intern to the Advanced Projects Group this spring. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, startup environment and are passionate about contributing to the development of leading-edge high-performance computing hardware for spacecraft and aerospace systems, we would like to hear from you.

As an FPGA/DSP intern in CesiumAstro’s Advanced Projects Group, you will have an opportunity to work with subject matter experts in FPGA technology, DSP, RF and theoretical communications. You will gain hands-on experience with industry-leading tools and methodologies used in the design and implementation of software-defined communication modules and subsystems. This position offers a variety of technically challenging topics including high-performance ADCs/DACs (digital/RF interfaces), design and implementation of algorithms on state-of-the-art SoC-class space-qualified FPGAs and embedded software design. Under the advisement of CesiumAstro’s technical leadership team, your internship will begin with the formulation and proposal of a project and conclude with delivery of a curated Git repo showcasing and documenting your work. You will also be expected to deliver a final presentation to CesiumAstro’s senior technical and corporate leadership teams.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with members of the Advanced Projects Group to propose a project which aligns with your interests and contributes to ongoing technical challenges at CesiumAstro.
  • Development of professionally written, documented and regression-tested code in SystemVerilog, Python or C/C++ expressing the technical functionality of your assigned project.
  • Identify and manage milestones, set actionable goals and provide weekly status reports describing the progress of your project.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the technical details of CesiumAstro’s IP.
  • Set a positive example for other interns at CesiumAstro and maintain a merit-based culture supporting high-performance engineering work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD program in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Physics at an accredited institution.
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Research, internship, or academic experience with DSP algorithm implementation or digital logic design on complex, SoC-class FPGAs.
  • Language experience with SystemVerilog (preferred), Verilog, VHDL, Python, MATLAB, or Embedded C.
  • Strong foundational understanding of digital design and engineering principles.
  • An ability and willingness to take personal responsibility for successful delivery of your project.
  • An ability to maintain a positive, inclusive and productive attitude when working with challenging technical problems.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with Linux and Git-based version control.
  • Experience with digital logic simulation and verification.

All CesiumAstro internships are compensated competitively and located onsite at one of our facilities.
