Campaigns Communication Specialist

Change.org is searching for a Campaigns Communication Specialist to help Change.org drive media coverage on big, brand defining campaigns led by our users. You will report to our Senior Communications Manager. As a key member of our Communications Team, you’ll identify strong campaigns for email, social media and press experimentation; stay abreast of compelling issues and news stories for campaign selection and escalation; draft brand emails applicable to a wide audience and use media to drive campaign impact, victory and brand awareness.

We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform with 100 million users, 40,000+ campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. We’re working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We’re just getting started and hope you’ll join us!

From mobilizing over 5 million people to investigate the fires in the Amazon, to mobilizing nearly 3 million against war and famine in Yemen, to large-scale mobilizations for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for Racial Justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. Dozens of local, national, and international victories are happening every day thanks to the strength of our members who are changing the lives of people around the world. We want to help them go even further and we need your help!

Key Outcomes:

  • Identify potentially strong campaigns for our team to test over email, social and press.
  • Use media to drive campaign impact, victory, and brand awareness; including pitching to press, building reporter lists, and suggesting stories for social media.
  • Support petition starters to drive their campaigns to victory and talk about their campaign to press.
  • Write brand emails that perform well to a wide swath of Change.org’s email audience.
  • Be on top of compelling issues and news stories to help with campaign selection and escalation.

The most important core competencies for the role are:

  • Strong writing skills, experience writing press pitches, marketing emails and social content.
  • Proven track record of landing media hits, including top-tier digital and print publications.
  • Existing connections with journalists and influencers who could help tell the story of Change.org’s brand.
  • Experience building media strategies that successfully drive brand awareness.
  • Demonstrated success organizing campaigns for social change and getting the attention of decision-makers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapid response environment.
  • A strong sense of what petitions will perform well on social media.
  • Willingness to work across differences, including providing support to policy-compliant campaigns that you may not agree with, but that align with Change.org’s commitment to being an open platform.

Target experience:

  • 3-6 years working in social organizing, campaigning or social justice;
  • 5+ years working in communications
