NYCERS is recruiting for one Associate Retirement Benefits Examiner, Level 3 in the Pension Verification and Recovery Unit within the Retirement and Pension Benefits Division. The Pension Verification and Recovery unit is looking for a Leader/Supervisor who is self-reliant, trustworthy, innovative, transparent and accountable. The candidate must lead with integrity and decision-making skillsets that align with NYCERS broader vision and goals. This role requires the candidate to understand the complexity of the retirement law, especially those relating to Income Limitations and Social Security offsets. The ideal candidate must be willing to take initiative and investigate issues as they arise, be proactive with a creative approach while sharing ideas on key processes. The candidate must understand the importance of adaptability and knowledge transfer both to their team and colleagues. The candidate must be credible with high morals and a commitment to always safeguarding client’s sensitive and confidential data. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring the unit’s day-to-day functions are executed proficiently. For example, providing and/or creating procedures that clearly guides the team in accomplishing the units’ goals. Keeping their direct report abreast of changes to work functions and taking the necessary action to correct inappropriate behavior. Performing administrative duties such as assigning and reviewing work, approving leave, evaluating performance, organizing work unit needs, overseeing training, allocating resources, maintaining Supervisory notes and attending high level meetings, as needed. Additional tasks include assisting the Division by participating in the LRP project discussion, adhering to and reinforcing NYCERS Missions, Vision and Values and ensuring unit is in compliance with Laws, Directives and Procedures. Fostering an environment conducive to continuous improvement and handling conflict fairly and sensitively. Ensuring that CRM cases and internal/external inquiries to the unit are handled within the established Service Level Agreement. As required, may support the Units’ goals by reviewing and calculating overpayments for complex cases.
ASSOCIATE RETIREMENT BENEFITS - 40493
1. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations in one or more of the following: a) a retirement or employee benefits plan;
b) for customer service in a financial institution; and/or c) in a position requiring the application of law, rules and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial or similar tables; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of the experience described in "1" above. Each 15 semester credits from an accredited college including at least 3 credits in the areas described in "1" above may be substituted for each 6 months of experience to a maximum of 2 years experience. All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least 2 years of experience as described in "1" above.
