NYC Parks serves as the steward for over 30,000 acres of land, which includes 1,000 playgrounds, 36 recreation centers, 66 pools and 14 miles of beach. Our primary responsibility is to build and maintain clean, safe and accessible parks, and to create cultural and educational programs for New Yorkers of all ages to enjoy.
NYC Parks is establishing a new citywide team, based in Maintenance & Operations (M&O), to address rodent issues in street tree beds across the five boroughs. The team will consist of a Park Supervisor 2 (PS2), Senior Forester (SF), Project Development Coordinator (PDC), four Exterminators, and four City Parks Workers (CPWs). Vehicles, equipment, and supplies will be provided.
Major Responsibilities
- Working closely with Parks Exterminators, perform work in the prevention, control, and elimination of rodents and other pests in and around tree beds.
- Perform general maintenance work at tree beds, including the removal of trash, litter, debris, canine waste, weeds, sucker growth, and other vegetation to reduce rodent harborage.
- Operate a Burrow Rx machine for rodent mitigation.
- Identify and collapse rodent burrows.
- Clean and maintain vehicles and facilities, including restrooms.
- Perform minor repair work including, but not limited to, plumbing, masonry, electrical, painting, carpentry, metal work and vehicle and equipment repair.
- Drive vehicles and operate other motorized equipment.
- Perform safety checks on facilities and equipment.
- May move furniture, climb and perform other physical activities as required in the performance of assigned.
