Data Analyst, Bureau of Tuberculosis Control - job 1 of 2

Job Description

The mission of the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) is to prevent the spread of tuberculosis and to eliminate it as a public health problem in New York City. The goals to achieve this mission are twofold: 1) To identify all individuals with suspected or confirmed TB disease and ensure appropriate treatment; 2) ensure that individuals at high risk for progression from Infection to TB disease are identified and treated for TB infection and non-developed TB disease.

Reporting to the Director of Disease Investigation and Case Management (DICM) the Data Analyst will perform data analysis on case management activities captured in the TB registry to generate reports, identify and track trends, area of concerns, and conduct routine quality assurance reviews.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Perform medium to high level data analysis on case data entered in the Electronic Disease Surveillance System (TB registry).
- Prepare routine and episodic reports including but not limited to, monthly case management activity statistics, Monthly DOT statistics, quarterly report for NY State, and CDC reports, etc.
- Perform medium to high level quality assurance on CM data and identify trends.
- Perform DICM evaluation activities and assist with DICM research efforts
- Maintain/manage DICM data files, spread sheets and databases.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Excellent data management skills, experience cleaning, manipulating and analyzing large data set using statistical software such as SAS, SQL and R.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and comfortable in preparing and delivering presentations to medium to large groups.
- Strong problem- solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and track progress to adhere to set timelines.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple and diverse assignments.

Qualifications

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
