Job Description

Randall’s Island Park is located in the East River between East Harlem, the South Bronx and Astoria, Queens. The Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) is a public-private partnership that works to realize the island’s unique potential by developing sports and recreational facilities, restoring its natural environment, reclaiming and maintaining parkland, and sponsoring community-linked programs for the children of New York City. RIPA has a $10M annual operating budget, and supports approximately 140 full-time and seasonal staff, including Managers of Icahn Stadium, Turf, Natural Areas, Programming, Horticulture and Operations. The park hosts over 60 outdoor athletic fields, 9 miles of dedicated bike/pedestrian pathways, a world-class Track & Field Stadium, over 200 free annual programs, 8 picnic areas, 20 acres of restored wetlands and natural areas and a 1-acre urban farm.

Major Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Randall’s Island Park Administrator and working closely with the RIPA President and leadership to support Randall’s Island Operations and oversee NYC Park initiatives on the 330 acres of parkland.
- Working closely with the Administrator and Manhattan Borough Chief of Operations, serve as a liaison to Manhattan Operations and oversee the maintenance and operations of Randall’s Island, providing leadership in maintaining, operating and improving the park. Aggressively pursue the immediate correction of safety hazards and ensure park features are inspected daily.
- Working with Park Supervision to oversee the day-to-day staffing in the park, including disciplinary actions, timekeeping and developing seasonal staffing plans to best serve park operations.
- Assist with the issuing of ballfield and special event permits for Randall’s Island, including film shoots, athletic tournaments and the coordination of large citywide special events held on the Harlem River Event Site.
- Provide Borough Commissioner with status reports on Park conditions and issues. Document conditions to make certain agency policy and regulations are followed.
- Support partnerships with volunteers, corporate and community groups and coordinate public meetings.
- Work with other divisions and agencies to coordinate activities on Randall’s Island.
- Attend community board meetings and respond to the needs of community organizations, partnership groups and public officials.
- Manage and direct complex jobs and projects that require prompt attention and resolution.
- Enforce compliance with Parks & Recreation’s rules, regulations, standards of conduct, uniform codes and vehicle operating procedures.
- Work directly with New York City Police Department (NYPD) and Park Enforcement Patrol to address security concerns.

License Requirement

A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required within six months of the date of appointment.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership, gardening, grounds maintenance, building maintenance or construction, of which 18 months must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or

2. High school graduation or its educational equivalent plus six years of experience as described in "1" above; or

3.Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described in "1" above.
