The Injury and Violence Prevention Program ( IVPP ) monitors fatal and non-fatal injury and violence in New York City over time and place, identifies populations at risk, disseminates data and provides technical assistance on prevention policies and programming on a broad range of injury including traffic-related injuries, interpersonal violence, suicide, falls among older adults, and child injuries.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Duties will include but not limited to: Direct all programmatic and analytic expansion of the traffic safety portfolio of work.
Strategically plan and manage all tasks associated with program activities, under the guidance of SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely) program goals, objectives and activities.
Oversee development of analytic priorities, plans and products across all injury prevention projects
Supervise staff in ways that match their diverse styles, meeting regularly to guide analytic planning and analyses and other work assignments; provide timely feedback and exchange updates on progress; and foster staff development through teamwork and connecting staff to available learning opportunities.
Provide clear expectations to staff on standards and practices related to data acquisition, data protection, data management, data analyses, data communication.
Provide broad-ranging technical support for ongoing surveillance projects, including managing large datasets involving multiple years of data, data cleaning, such as ensuring consistent coding of variables, preparing datasets for analysis and conducting analyses.
Develop a range of data productions for multiple dissemination pathways, present data in written and oral form internally and to a range of key internal and external stakeholders
Develop and implement appropriate and timely staffing and spending plans for all grant and CTL program funds.
Identify relevant research opportunities to inform priority program and policy work. Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned by supervisors.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Experience in injury epidemiology, as relatively young field of applied public health.
Strong competency in managing multiple projects and their supporting teams.
Competency in statistics, SAS programming, STATA or R and data manipulation technologies.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including expertise in formatting and designing of reports, charts, graphs and tables.
Keen ability to read, interpret and synthesize epidemiologic and quantitative data, and other scientific literature.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and management skills.
Experience managing staff and project research-related tasks and timeline.
Interest in and knowledge of injury and violence as public health constructs
PhD in epidemiology or related field preferred.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five years of full-time professional satisfactory experience acquired within the last fifteen years, in a health services setting such as a laboratory, hospital, or other patient care facility, or in a public health, environmental health, or mental hygiene program, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial capacity, consisting of managerial experience clearly demonstrating the ability to perform difficult and responsible managerial work, requiring independent decision-making concerning program management, planning, allocation of resources, and the scheduling and assignment of work.
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that each 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college in hospital administration, public health, public administration, business administration, management or administration can be substituted for one year of non-managerial experience up to a maximum of 60 semester credits for two years. However, all candidates must have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree and 18 months of managerial experience as described in "1" above.
