The Fleet Services Division is seeking Electrician (Automobile)s to work in various locations throughout the 5 boroughs of New York City. Under supervision, Electrician (Automobile)s overhauls, repairs and maintains engines, motors and motor-powered equipment, component assemblies, and component systems used in automotive, construction and special-purpose equipment powered by internal combustion engines; performs related work. Overhauls, maintains and repairs internal combustion engines, motors and motor-powered equipment, including brake systems, transmissions, ignition systems, rear ends, differential assemblies, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, electronic systems, and other related components and systems. Aligns wheels and repairs steering equipment. Relines and adjusts brakes and clutches. Makes minor repairs and adjustments in the field so that a vehicle may be returned to the garage or repair shop under its own power. Conveys orders to other journeymen as directed. Supervises machinist helpers, senior automotive service workers, automotive service workers, and other personnel as directed. Trains assigned machinist helpers, senior automotive service workers, automotive service workers, or other related personnel in the performance of various maintenance and/or repair tasks. Performs minor auto body repairs. Prepares reports and orders, and maintain records and inventories of parts, components, supplies and materials. Operates and tests motor vehicles and equipment in the performance of assigned duties.

ELECTRICIAN (AUTOMOBILE) - 91719
1. Five years of satisfactory full-time experience as an automotive electrician or aviation electrician; or
2. At least three years of experience as described in “1” above, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature, specializing in automotive electrical and electronic systems, acquired in an approved full-time trade or vocational high school. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved full-time trade or technical or vocational high school. Less than a full year of helper or apprentice experience, or relevant education, will receive prorated credit.
Driver License Requirement: By the time you are appointed to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment."
