Job Description

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for an Investigative Analyst in its Elder Abuse Unit, which provides services to elder abuse victims. In this position, the Investigative Analyst is responsible for assisting Assistant District Attorneys investigate financial crimes perpetrated against the elderly.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Assist ADAs in complex investigations into financial frauds perpetrated against the elderly.
- Work extensively with specialized NYPD Squads, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”), and major financial institutions.
- Proactively generate investigations through the use of FinCEN and other similar databases.
- Collect, analyze, and organize large amounts of financial documents and other case data for ADAs and other members of law enforcement.
- Assist in grand jury and trial preparation, including creation of graphs, diagrams, and other visual aids.
- Testify and present evidence to the grand jury and petit juries.
- Performs other administrative and paralegal duties as assigned.


In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:

- Level 1 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
- Level 2 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
- Level 3 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and three (3) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
*Master’s degree can be substituted for years of experience. *


Preferred Requirements/Skills:

- 2 - 4 years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent based on the level.
- Computer proficiency required: Microsoft Office (specifically Excel).
- Advanced knowledge of criminal justice investigative internet search techniques and databases, including, but not limited to, CLEAR, Accurint, TLO, and eJustice.
- Proficiency in Internet search strategies and techniques, including preserving Facebook and other social media profiles.
- Superior organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments efficiently.
- Ability to think and perform in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, witnesses, defense attorneys, financial institutions, regulators, and law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to communicate investigative results to other team members and to testify in court regarding investigative results.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal, time management, and oral and written communication skills.
- Must work well as part of a team.

Additional Information:

- Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current position and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

- Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.


Hours/Shift:

- Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
