Job Description

** OPEN TO APPLICANTS WHO ARE PERMANENT IN THE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OF CUSTODIAN.

PART-TIME @ 40 HOURS PER WEEK.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), a recognized leader and innovator in public health and mental hygiene services, seeks to hire (1) Custodian, Level IV. The Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation's (BFSCS) primary goal is to ensure compliance with health regulations relating to the environment, educate the public and businesses, and represent the Department to the public on important environmental health issues as they relate to food safety.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

Under the oversite of the Supervising Custodian the preferred candidate will be responsible for maintaining the Zerega premises, its equipment, and surrounding grounds. Supervise one custodian and/or temporary work support staff as required. This will also include oversite of any other needed facilities/operational support staff who may be solicited to perform building cleaning, maintenance tasks, grounds keeping, furniture removal and/or vendor services etc.

Maintain a site inspection log of all building activities related to general maintenance, cleaning schedules, cleaning supply inventory, garage equipment servicing/usage, work performed by outside contractors etc.

Supervise and participate in minor repairs; report conditions requiring the services of a vendor, Health Support Services and/or DOHMH operational support etc.

Train and/or arrange facility related training for custodial staff. Conduct and/or coordinate in the opening and/or closing of the facility and facility gates/entryways as required.

Conduct and supervise general services: General cleaning of all facility areas and surrounding grounds.

This includes, but is not limited to the sanitizing/disinfecting of all surfaces, restroom(s) cleaning, waxing of internal office floors, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, shoveling, garbage retrieval/disposal, painting, dusting, trimming of shrubbery, weed pulling, cleaning of tree pits, wiping of signage and high touch services/windows, polishing of fixtures, spot cleaning, cleaning of garbage receptacles, changing of light bulbs, maintaining cleaning supply inventory etc.

Participate in all general trainings and safety trainings as required.
Enforce building safety requirements/safety rules, regulations, and protocols as required.

Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
To be assigned to Assignment Level III and IV candidates must have four years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
