Convergent Research is a non-profit science studio best known for pioneering the Focused Research Organization (FRO). We architect pivotal infrastructure that removes bottlenecks to breakthrough scientific research.
FROs are a new operating model for science that ensures rapid iteration cycles and high-throughput learning. Convergent secures funding and provides an operational backbone for counterfactual R&D, creating space for scientists to do what they do best. FRO teams are agile, creative, and risk-tolerant as a result. They make fast progress because they start and stay focused.
About the Role
At Convergent Research, we don’t just hold events—we craft experiences that spark ideas, build community, and, occasionally, make science feel like magic. From high-stakes CEO retreats to casual-yet-strategic community dinners, our events are where the future of research takes shape.
We need someone who doesn’t just plan events but designs them with intention. Someone who can take a vague, “We should probably have a thing for that,” and transform it into a seamless, impactful gathering that people will still be talking about months later. You’ll be our go-to expert on when an event is the right tool for the job, and you’ll handle everything from high-level strategy to the tiniest (but critical) details—like making sure the AV works, the gluten-free options don’t taste like cardboard, and our VIPs have just the right level of privacy.
You’ll be the architect of our event ecosystem. Whether it’s an intimate dinner, a multi-day summit, or a virtual convening, you’ll design and execute with precision, care, and just enough flair to make things feel special. You’ll manage all the moving parts—venues, vendors, logistics, budgets, contracts—so our team and guests can focus on the science, the ideas, and the connections.
You are- A strategic thinker – You design events from first principles, ensuring every choice (venue, format, activities) aligns with the event’s purpose.
- An execution powerhouse – You don’t just make plans; you make them happen. You move fast, stay organized, and keep a clear handle on every moving piece.
- Experienced and detail-obsessed – You sweat the small stuff because you know it makes all the difference. From seating arrangements to the timing of coffee breaks, you ensure every element is intentional.
- A proactive problem solver – When things go sideways (because at some point, they will), you stay cool under pressure and find creative solutions in real-time.
- An expert at guest experience – You understand what makes an event exceptional and how to create a welcoming, energizing atmosphere where people feel comfortable and engaged.
- An exceptional communicator – You’re clear, transparent, and always keep stakeholders in the loop. People trust you to have things handled.
- Independent but collaborative – You take ownership, work autonomously, and proactively ask for what you need. But you also thrive in a team and make others better at what they do.
- Attuned to experience design – You understand how environments shape interactions and use that knowledge to foster meaningful connections and collaboration.
- A master of juggling – You can manage multiple events and stakeholders simultaneously without dropping the ball.
You will- Mastermind Events with Purpose – Not every problem needs an event (but when it does, you’ll make it count). You’ll design gatherings that actually move the needle.
- Keep the Calendar on Lock – Own the master plan for all things events—quarterly offsites, key gatherings, and the occasional last-minute “let’s make this happen” moment.
- Turn Big Ideas into Reality – Transform vague concepts like “we should do a leadership retreat” into structured, actionable, and flawlessly executed plans.
- Make Logistics Look Easy – Scout the perfect venues, book top-tier vendors, negotiate like a pro, and ensure every detail is squared away (US and international)—without breaking a sweat. Oh, and because red tape shouldn’t ruin a great event, you’ll also make sure all necessary permits, licenses, and insurance requirements are locked in and good to go.
- Roll Out the Red Carpet – Keep attendees happy by handling invites, special requests, dietary needs, accessibility concerns—you name it.
- Be the Event Day MVP – Manage the run-of-show, keep everything running like clockwork, and handle surprises (like lost luggage or missing microphones) with grace.
- Host Like a Pro – Whether it’s a VIP dinner or a team retreat, you’ll set the tone, foster great connections, and make sure every guest feels at home.
- Keep the Budget in Check – Work with finance to track expenses, process reimbursements, and make smart spending decisions that don’t sacrifice quality.
- Always Be Leveling Up – Run post-event debriefs, spot opportunities for improvement, and refine processes so every event gets better than the last.
- Stay Agile & Ready for Anything – Navigate shifting priorities, juggle multiple stakeholders, and be ready to jump in on other ops tasks when needed.
