Shipping Clerk

Job Description

This position is to support the daily operations of our Shipping Department and will focus on creating routes processing non-standard orders/requests for order fulfillment activities to support each of these areas as well as drive continuous improvement. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for preparing bill of ladings, packing lists, customer paperwork, and processing other shipping paperwork as needed
  • Trace shipments and/or customer shipments
  • Work with plant customer pickups (CPU’s)
  • Prepare routine reports, scan, and index shipping documents
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives with focus on continuous quality improvement and safety
  • Coordinate and communicate daily with company fleet drivers and contract carriers to aid in complete and on time deliveries
  • Commitment to safe work practices. The company has a culture committed to keeping our employees working safely and injury free
  • Complete load confirmation and invoicing of material
  • Alert sales and management of any back-ordered material
  • Generate shipping documents such as Bill of Ladings and packing slips
  • Organize daily routes through Southwest US and ship schedules to build efficient shipments of company trucks and outside carriers
  • Call customers and transportation vendors to arrange deliveries
  • Verbal and Written communication to supervisors’ customers, carriers, and co-workers such as packing list, forms, reports, workload requirements, and emails.
  • Use computers to print labels and report productivity
  • Follow company procedures and guidelines
  • Other Shipping office tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be capable of performing a variety of shipping and receiving tasks
  • Must have strong computer skills, Microsoft Office is required
  • Manufacturing background and previous experience in logistics is preferred
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, verify accuracy of shipments and ensure items are sent in the most cost-effective manner
  • Must have a Positive Attitude and Customer Centric mindset
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Must be able be self-driven and confident in their approach
  • Must be energetic and enjoy a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to multitask and be proactive in resolving problems before it affects production, quality, scrap, or customer service
  • Must have exceptional communication skills (verbal, email, phone)
  • Must be able to learn company specific computer software programs (Oracle, OTM)
  • Must have experience in a shipping office - creating bill of ladings, FedEx, and routing company truck routes
  • Bilingual ability (Spanish and English) would be a plus
