Job Description

The Director, Analysis, Global Public Affairs is a cross-group role that will work with teams responsible for various aspects of public affairs, including government relations, stakeholder relations, and geopolitical analysis. The individual in this role will make use of their strong finance background and project management skills to develop and execute strategies for harnessing and packaging team knowledge for the organization’s benefit.

This is an internal-facing role whose key customers will include Managing Directors across Global Public Affairs and leaders across CPPIB who depend on geopolitical insights and analysis of political risk. This role will partner with these leaders on decision-useful analysis, strategies and content. The individual will be able to work across multiple files with a variety of individuals as priorities evolve. This is a bridging role intended to bring various internal stakeholders together to harness their collective expertise while supporting them by way of deep expertise in financial markets and data analytics.

Accountabilities

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to collaborate on projects which continue to advance CPPIB’s strategic priorities. Primary stakeholders will include the Managing Directors in the Global Public Affairs team who manage the organization’s relationships with governments in Canada and around the world, as well as colleagues across the Fund who have responsibilities for aspects of geopolitical risk management or relevant insights to harness. Projects will include proactive global initiatives, as well as supporting regional project work that might be based on geopolitical events, foreseeable risks, or transaction-related needs.
  • Play a leadership role in, and provide analytical support to, the organization’s Geopolitical Task Force.
  • Conceive of, develop and execute on models and frameworks to provide meaningful insights on political and geopolitical risk.
  • Oversee and develop elements of long, medium, and short-term projects with a high degree of organization and attention to detail.
  • Manage the ongoing development of executive and external materials, which may include analysis, briefing materials, advocacy papers, and strategic communications products to influence desired outcomes.
  • Conduct or consult on the necessary analysis to present or inform recommendations.

Qualifications

  • MBA / Masters in Finance and/or 8+ years of relevant experience from an investment-related role.  
  • Deep global public affairs or geopolitical expertise. 
  • Strong project management skills to ensure the efficient, timely and best-in-class delivery of materials.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience analyzing the market impacts or business implications of policy and geopolitical developments.
  • Strong, demonstrated knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook and Bloomberg.
  • Ability to produce professional content in written and visual forms.
  • Experience with AI software (Copilot)
  • In-depth experience in working effectively with all levels of the organization and managing senior internal stakeholders.
