Sr. Specialist Solutions Architect - Data Engineering & Spark

This role requires candidates to work onsite in San Francisco, CA, 3–4 times a week and to have hands-on experience with Apache Spark™.

We’re hiring a Specialist Solutions Architect (SSA) to support a strategic enterprise customer as they scale their adoption of Databricks. This is a hands-on, data engineering-focused role where you’ll work side-by-side with the customer’s technical teams to build robust, production-ready data and AI pipelines. You’ll play a critical role in guiding architectural decisions, helping the customer optimize their Spark workloads, and ensuring a successful deployment of Databricks across their organization. From building scalable data pipelines to troubleshooting complex Spark jobs, your work will directly impact how this organization extracts value from their data. Help a major customer realize the full potential of Databricks through technical excellence, partnership, and a relentless focus on outcomes
Unblock technical challenges, accelerate migration efforts, and drive meaningful outcomes from day one
Collaborate closely with Databricks product and engineering teams to share customer feedback and help shape future platform capabilities
Codify best practices and contribute to internal knowledge bases that scale the impact of the Specialist Solutions Architect team

What we look for:

7+ years of hands-on data engineering experience with deep expertise in Apache Spark™ and distributed data processing
Experience working across cloud platforms (preferably Azure), understanding the nuances of modern storage formats like Delta and Iceberg, and building scalable pipelines using orchestration tools like Airflow
Experienced in tuning Spark jobs for performance and cost, addressing complex issues such as data skew, shuffle inefficiencies, and memory leaks
Strong ownership of problems from end-to-end—diving deep, learning quickly, and doing whatever it takes to deliver results
Ability to clearly and empathetically communicate complex technical concepts, adapting effortlessly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Someone who thrives in collaborative, customer-facing environments and knows how to turn strategic goals into scalable, working systems

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. $196,200—$300,800 USD
