Job Overview: We are looking for a Facilities Manager to help support the growth and operation of our small R&D facility based in Los Angeles, CA, where engineers will design, prototype, and test the latest DAC technologies. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is passionate about enabling innovation for a cleaner world.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the R&D facility to ensure a safe, clean, and productive environment for all teams.
- Manage all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety equipment, ensuring they are fully functional and compliant with regulations.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure critical equipment and systems are operational at all times.
- Regularly inspect the facility to identify any maintenance or safety issues, ensuring quick resolution to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand their needs for prototyping and testing, and help design and set up the necessary workspaces, lab areas, and test environments.
- Oversee the installation of specialized equipment and machinery to support R&D activities, ensuring the facility is optimized for prototyping and testing Direct Air Capture technologies.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to manage any construction or remodeling work, ensuring that the facility can accommodate new prototypes, lab setups, and testing equipment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for engineers and R&D staff regarding facility needs, ensuring they have the proper resources to carry out their work.
- Coordinate and support the testing and prototyping process by providing access to workspaces, tools, and equipment in a timely manner.
- Address any facility-related issues that may impact engineering projects, troubleshooting problems and finding solutions to keep work on track.
Basic Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Operations, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in facilities management, ideally in a lab, R&D, or industrial setting.
- Proven track record of managing small-to-medium-sized facilities, ideally with experience in environments that involve prototyping or testing engineering technologies.
- Experience with building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) and general facility maintenance.
Preferred Skills and Experience- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance, particularly in lab and industrial environments.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to identify and resolve facility-related issues quickly.
- Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and provide support in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
- Ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions without all available data.
- Self-motivated, strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication, and documentation skills
Additional Requirements- Willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary
- Some travel required
