The role

An exciting role based in Mountain View, CA  to join a fast paced, dynamic team focussed on delivering an exceptional workplace experience. As GDM’s Senior Workplace Manager you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of GDM’s physical workspace ensuring the best environment to support GDM’s research. With a focus on strategic planning, budget management, and leading a team to provide a world class workplace experience.

Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

Strategic Workplace Planning & Optimization:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive workplace strategy that aligns with Google DeepMind's long-term business goals, anticipates future needs, and optimizes space utilization across all global offices.  
  • Forecast space requirements, considering factors such as headcount growth, evolving work styles, and technology advancements.  
  • Analyse current workplace solutions and identify opportunities to improve space utilization, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.  
  • Implement innovative workplace solutions, such as flexible work arrangements, hoteling, or desk sharing, to maximize the use of existing space.  
  • Track key metrics related to space utilization and cost, and report on progress to leadership.  

Cultivate a Thriving Workplace Culture

  • Embed Google DeepMind's values and culture into the workplace experience, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all employees.  
  • Act as a cultural ambassador, ensuring that the physical workspace reflects Google DeepMind's unique identity and supports its mission.  
  • Regularly gather employee feedback through surveys, focus groups, and other channels to assess workplace satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.  
  • Use data and insights to drive meaningful changes to the workplace, creating a more engaging, productive, and inclusive environment for all employees.  

Lead and Manage Effectively:

  • Lead and mentor a team of workplace professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.  
  • Develop and manage relationships with key vendors and stakeholders, ensuring service level agreements are met and performance expectations are exceeded.  
  • Proactively address any vendor-related issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to the workplace.  
  • Ideate and communicate complex workplace concepts and plans clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including senior executives, employees, and external partners.  
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders across all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, department heads, and employees.  
  • Leverage strong negotiation skills to secure optimal office locations, lease terms, and vendor contracts that meet Google DeepMind's needs and budget.

About you

As an ideal candidate, you’ll be experienced in operational deliver, passionate about delivering a high-end 5* service. With previous experience in hotel, retail, office or related environments, you will have a proven track record in delivering exceptional workplace operations. You’ll have demonstrated experience in multi-service environment operations, excellent stakeholder skills and experience in heading up transformative programmes. You are an excellent communicator, agile, flexible and will be driven by the pursuance of excellence and looking for ways to improve at all turns. Calm under pressure, you are proactive, solutions oriented and flexible. 

In order to set you up for success as a Senior Workplace Manager at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Strong decision-making capabilities
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and delegation skills
  • Experience developing and maintaining budgets
  • Strong working knowledge of operational procedures
  • Ability to establish relationships across all levels with internal and external partners.
  • Experience working on cross functional initiatives end-to-end. From conceptualisation to delivery / adoption
  • Experience with vendor management
  • Comfortable with regular international travel
  • Experienced project and/or change management, ideally across workplace projects/programmes

In addition, the following would be an advantage: 

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in business management, operations or related field
  • Previous performance evaluation experience
  • Experience from a range of industries such as hospitality, retail and workplace welcome. 
  • Working knowledge of human resources processes

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $153,000 - $242,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
