Senior Associate Bioinformatics Data Engineer (Contract)

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Associate Bioinformatics Data Engineer to join our Next Generation Sequencing Team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in data engineering, with a focus on laboratory informatics and scientific data management. They should excel at managing tasks such as integrating data across multiple softwares and sources, ensuring data consistency and integrity, and automating complex data workflows for reliable and efficient operations. Experience in analyzing high-throughput sequencing data is desirable to support storage and compute infrastructure for bioinformatics pipelines and analysis. Here’s What You’ll Do:

• Maintain information management processes in ELN/LIMS, with a focus on database systems queries and data manipulation
• Monitor data quality controls and transform/load processes to ensure data integrity across LIMS, cloud, and enterprise data warehousing solutions
• Execute and monitor established bioinformatics processing pipelines.
• Adjust deliverables to meet the needs of partners by providing customized analysis and visuals.
• Collaborate and partner closely with wet lab scientists and internal bioinformatic team to create reproducible, accessible analyses that are delivered in a clear, concise manner.

Requirements:

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field with 2+ years of biotechnology experience; or Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in ELN/LIMS systems and understanding of laboratory workflows and data management, (preferably Benchling) including experience with relational databases and data warehouse structures, and familiarity with data modeling, schemas, and backend information management through use of SQL or APIs
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages, with a strong preference for Python data manipulating tools (e.g. Pandas) and SQL (Nextflow or R are a plus).
• Proven experience in analyzing high-throughput sequencing data (RNA-Seq, WGS, metagenomic sequencing, etc.).
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, storage and compute services (AWS is a plus).
• Familiarity with containerization and general knowledge of DevOps practices
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
