Instructional Content Specialist

Over the last 10+ years, Ellevation Education has built a thriving business serving the administrators, specialists, and teachers who support English Learners (ELL) at public schools across the US. Today, over 1,800 school districts use our software to manage their EL programs and drive key outcomes for students. We are a successful, rapidly growing business with a real mission—helping ELLs achieve their highest aspirations. We are making a series of investments in the development of a short benchmark ELP assessment aimed at informing instruction for EL students in grades 2–12 across the country. This lightweight assessment will serve as a lower-stakes vehicle to measure students’ ELP growth between the high-stakes, federally mandated summative ELP assessments. To do this, we are building out a small team of experienced assessment authors with expertise in the K–12 ELP space.

As an Instructional Content Specialist, you will work closely with other content specialists to develop Ellevation’s first benchmark ELP assessment. Leveraging your editorial experience and knowledge of ELP Standards and Proficiency Level Descriptors (such as WIDA, CA ELA/ELD Framework, ELPA21, and/or Texas ELPS), you will contribute to the assessment design and play a key role in the 6–12 blueprint and item development. You will also collaborate with other members of our Education Solutions team and Assessment Product Teams to shape the student experience, content tooling development, and scoring operations. At Ellevation, Instructional Specialists are responsible for delivering research-based, high-quality content and contributing to the revision workflow of other content authors on the team. Members of the Education Solutions team serve as subject matter experts within the product organization and at times, across the company. We use agile development methodologies in order to quickly deliver value to our customers (EL educators) and the students they serve. We often revise our approach and take pride in evolving our work to meet the needs of customers.

Impact you have in this role:
  • 1 month: Build background knowledge on Ellevation’s planned assessment solution, including internal documentation and processes, while at the same time, begin to learn about our customers and their regional segmentation and needs. Develop rapport with key stakeholders and team members. Contribute to the assessment design and authoring of a benchmark ELP assessment for grades 6–12.
  • 3 months: Author assessment items including detailed art specifications in secondary grade bands. Review and contribute to the quality of assessment items in primary grade bands. Demonstrate expertise in authoring and revision workflows. Collaborate closely with other content specialists, delivering exceptional content on time and at a quality that exceeds our customers’ expectations.
  • 6 months: Drive delivery of assessment items. Engage with stakeholders, including customers, on early feedback.
  • 12 months: Heavily contribute to Ellevation becoming a market leader in the ELP benchmark space through consistent delivery of assessment items.

About You:
  • You have 3–5 years of experience writing and editing high-quality ELP assessment content for students in the K–12 space, with a focus on grades 6–12.
  • You have demonstrated success in developing high-quality, educational and assessment content aligned to language standards within a specified time frame. (Sustainability + Impact)
  • You have a strong background in national and regionally specific EL language standards and frequently engage in new learning to stay up-to-date (Go and See)
  • You have strong verbal communication skills and a willingness to contribute to collaborative work, delivering and receiving feedback well. (Win Together)
  • You have natural curiosity and an eagerness to learn from others. (Stay Curious)
