About the Position
The Energy Market Analyst (Gas), part of the Americas – Data and Insights team, will support Energy Exemplar’s growth in North America by working in an integrated gas fundamentals team on several datasets and Gas Insights products. Working with gas and power subject matter experts, they will help develop products using Energy Exemplar tools and datasets that address customer needs.
The role is heavily focused on modelling, requiring expertise in energy and gas market fundamentals. The analyst will build and produce energy market models using PLEXOS and other bespoke tools. Candidates should have strong modelling skills, fundamental gas modelling experience, and a proactive, adaptable mindset.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and learn new techniques
- Experience building large and scalable systems
- Experience in building products on cloud and Web API development
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and designing for performance.
- Ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to learn internal Cloud systems and Cloud Computing
- Knowledge in relational databases, data warehousing and services
- Experience developing data visualization (via Power BI, BI Analytics, Excel, or other Cloud-based applications)
- Advanced skills using Excel, Power BI and Python and its libraries
- Experience in synthesizing large data and building complex reports and charts
- Experience working in data management, Data structures, project development
- Knowledge of one or more energy economic modeling tools and its data management techniques: PLEXOS, GPCM, MarketAnalytics, Sendout, MarketBuilder and/or other natural gas fundamental models
- Experience with Natural Gas Market Analysis and Modeling
- Self-Starter and ability to work independently
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and learn new techniques
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge of energy markets & associated economics
- Ability to communicate complex subject matter in an easy-to-understand manner
- Top-down approach to problem solving – ability to see the big picture
- Strong interpersonal presence and skills - demonstrated ability to build rapport
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Strong listening and presentation skills
- Thorough knowledge of standard Microsoft programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Strong desire for personal and career advancement
- Four-year degree in Economics (preferred), Engineering, Economics or Mathematics
- Prior experience in building fundamental data structures and systems for energy market models
- Knowledge of PLEXOS or other mathematically based optimization tools
