Company Description

Under general supervision from the Project Director, the TANF Career Coach provides on-going support, guidance and direction to TANF clients in becoming self-reliant. This includes but not limited to initial and ongoing eligibility, development of client case plans and coordination of client services. This may be through direct intervention, referrals to partner agencies or the provision of support services that enhance academic achievement, provide job training, improve basic life skills, or lead to personal and cultural growth and development.

Job Description

  • Build a professional one-on-one working relationship with TANF clients to aid in eliminating challenges that are hindrances to obtaining and retaining employment. This includes: assessment, individualized employment plan and coordination of services.
  • Provide consistent and comprehensive case management and follow-up
  • Conduct new customer orientation - Help to ensure that positive outcomes and goals are met as required by contract - Work with schools, DSS offices and staff and management to ensure appropriate documentation is completed and received
  • Facilitate all professional development workshops
  • Maintain organized database of clients and keep detailed documentation of all contacts with clients - Ensure participants follow through with planned activities as outlined in contract with funding agency
  • Provide individualized assessment of work, provide referrals to appropriate community service or social service agencies when needed
  • Document all participant contacts and activities in case notes 
  • Create solutions to participant participation problems
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports as needed 
  • Work collaboratively with the employers to identify which jobs are available, what qualifications are needed, and which workshops and trainings can best prepare jobseekers for these positions
  • Participate in activities including training, capacity building, and professional development - Work with leadership to identify operational challenges and to design and implement process improvements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A commitment to improving the lives and well-being of people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds through the delivery of programs and services leading to a strong family unit, self-sufficiency, and independence.
  • Skill and comfort in communicating orally and in writing with groups of all sizes, in person as well as through the electronic media.
  • Demonstrated skill in the supervision, training, and motivation of professional TANF Career Coach staff.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office/ability to learn and operate specialized software programs.
  • Experience in selecting, mentoring, training, motivating, and providing leadership and direction to others.
  • An understanding of the principals of community organization and development.
  • Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and thrive in a deadline driven environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Possession of a valid and current Virginia Driver’s License, proof of a DMV printout and a demonstrated ability to be properly insured.
