Location: Hybrid Remote in Chantilly, VA 


As a Systems Storage Administrator III (Storage and Backup Recovery Specialist), you will serve as a senior technical expert responsible for the implementation, administration, and optimization of enterprise storage and data protection infrastructure in support of a Department of Defense (DoD) customer. You will leverage your in-depth knowledge of HPE storage systems, SAN architecture, Veeam backup solutions, and secure system administration to ensure the availability, integrity, and recoverability of mission-critical data. Operating with minimal supervision, you will provide advanced troubleshooting, automation, and capacity planning, while ensuring compliance with DoD security and operational standards. In this role, you will also collaborate with cross-functional IT teams, support classified environments, and contribute to enterprise-wide IT service improvements that enhance mission success and user experience. 

 

The proposed salary range for this position is $100,482-$170,500. There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, geographic location, education, and certifications. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide advanced technical oversight of enterprise storage hardware and software, especially HPE arrays (Nimble, 3PAR, Primera). 
  • Configure and manage SAN and NAS infrastructure, including zoning and fabric configuration for Fibre Channel environments. 
  • Proactively monitor storage systems for performance, availability, and capacity; report metrics and trends. 
  • Perform storage allocation and capacity forecasting aligned with customer requirements and service level agreements (SLAs). 
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of SAN configurations, cabling diagrams, and operational procedures. 
  • Administer and optimize enterprise backup and recovery solutions using Veeam Backup & Replication. 
  • Develop, implement, and routinely test business continuity and disaster recovery strategies. 
  • Monitor backup job performance, resolve failures, and conduct periodic recovery drills. 
  • Ensure data retention, offsite replication, and restore procedures comply with organizational policy and regulatory frameworks. 
  • Install, configure, and maintain secure server infrastructure (hardware and OS), ensuring compliance with RMF, STIG, and patching requirements. 
  • Manage software installations, service packs, and security patches to maintain IAVA compliance. 
  • Troubleshoot network, hardware, and OS-level issues affecting storage and data availability. 
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for performance reporting, event notification, and software updates. 
  • Collaborate with DBAs to optimize storage for MariaDB instances, ensuring efficient backup and restore operations. 
  • Identify and mitigate database storage performance bottlenecks. 
  • Coordinate closely with other IT disciplines (networking, server, security, help desk) for seamless support and issue resolution. 
  • Provide technical mentorship and training to junior staff on storage, backup, and recovery best practices. 
  • Deliver timely and clear communications regarding system status, planned outages, and resolution timelines. 
  • Interface directly with end-users and stakeholders, maintaining a professional and service-oriented demeanor. 
  • Provide technical support to operational strategies aligned within your program and initiatives that optimize processes, enhance productivity, and ensure quality across all program functions 
  • Ensure 100% of planned hours are worked and recorded 
  • Identify and forward to your leadership any opportunities that could lead to growth within your work area 
  • Participate in growth efforts as requested 
  • Ensure all contractual deliverables are met/exceeded to the customer's satisfaction 
  • Complete personal PDP and attend Staff Meeting and Storytime (with camera on) 
  • Within your program, build productive and positive professional relationships with clients 
  • Execute all contract requirements as assigned in accordance with the contract-specific LCAT and requirements 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 


KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Clearance: Active Secret Clearance 
  • Education and Years of Experience: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 5 - 7 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 - 5 years of experience  

  • Security+ (DoD 8140 compliance), with HPE or Veeam certifications preferred. 
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise HPE storage solutions (e.g., Nimble, 3PAR, Primera) 
  • Proven expertise in Veeam Backup & Replication administration and troubleshooting 
  • Solid understanding of MariaDB database concepts, including backup and recovery methodologies 
  • Experience with SAN/NAS technologies (Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, SMB) 
  • Strong understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) 
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment 
  • Proficiency with RMF and STIG implementation 
  • Experience with ITILv4  
  • Experience with Agile Scrum methodologies 
  • Proficient skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Visio) and SharePoint 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with ServiceNow 
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP). 
  • Relevant certifications might include HPE Storage, Veeam, or other relevant technologies (e.g., HPE ASE, Veeam Certified Engineer)  
  • Experience working independently to expose and resolve problems
