Job Overview

The Multidisciplinary Database Specialist will play a key role in managing and optimizing the organization’s diverse database systems. This position requires a broad skill set to work with relational, NoSQL, cloud-based, and big data technologies. You will collaborate with teams across various functions, including data engineering, data science, and IT, to ensure the smooth integration, accessibility, and security of data in both structured and unstructured formats.

This role requires a strong understanding of database management systems, data integration techniques, performance optimization, and the ability to work with multiple databases in different domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Management & Optimization:
• Manage, maintain, and optimize multiple database platforms, including relational (SQL), NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.), and cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, etc.).
• Implement database performance tuning, optimization, and indexing strategies to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
• Ensure the integrity, security, and compliance of databases by implementing robust backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Data Integration & Architecture:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement data integration solutions across various systems and platforms.
• Work with data engineering teams to architect efficient ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Integrate data from diverse sources (e.g., CRM systems, ERP systems, cloud services, and APIs) into the central database.
• Ensure data consistency and accessibility across various systems for real-time and batch processing.
• Data Security & Governance:
• Design and implement data governance policies to ensure that data is accurate, accessible, and secure.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and industry best practices.
• Implement access controls and encryption techniques to secure sensitive data.
• Collaboration & Cross-Disciplinary Support:
• Provide support for data analysts, data scientists, and application teams in terms of database design, queries, and performance.
• Collaborate with business teams to understand their data needs and provide data solutions that support business objectives.
• Assist with database-related troubleshooting and data issue resolution across the organization.
• Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
• Stay updated with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of database solutions.
• Suggest and implement new database tools, technologies, and frameworks to meet evolving business needs.
• Work with DevOps teams to automate database deployment, maintenance, and monitoring processes.
• Reporting & Documentation:
• Document database designs, architectures, processes, and procedures for internal reference.
• Provide periodic reports on database health, performance metrics, and optimization efforts.
• Create technical documentation for integrations, data flows, and backup/restoration procedures.

Qualifications

Essential Skills & Experience

• Education: A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Experience:
• 5+ years of experience working with a variety of database systems, including relational (SQL), NoSQL, and cloud-based databases.
• Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
• Strong understanding of database performance tuning, indexing, and optimization strategies.
• Experience implementing database security measures such as access control, encryption, and backup strategies.
• Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) is a plus.
• Proven experience with tools like SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, or similar.

Technical Skills:

• Advanced proficiency in SQL and database design.
• Proficiency in database administration tasks such as installation, configuration, and maintenance.
• Experience with cloud-based database solutions (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, etc.).
• Familiarity with programming and scripting languages like Python, Shell, or Java for data processing and automation.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) for database deployment and management.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB.
• Knowledge of big data tools and technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.
• Understanding of data pipeline frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow).
• Familiarity with modern data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
