POSITION SUMMARY
Heritage Werks is seeking a Senior Brand Historian to join their growing team! The Brand Historian is the go-to expert in the histories of their assigned clients, responsible for advising clients on heritage storytelling in alignment with current needs and communications strategies, conducting and supervising research, authoring content for major initiatives and reports, and serving as the face of the client's history in videos and live/virtual appearances. An ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in historical research and in adapting history topics for a variety of audiences including teaching, writing and museum education or curatorial experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Act as the primary representative of the client’s history, leading both live and virtual history presentations, including video productions, Q&A sessions, and acculturation talks.
· Partner with the Managing Director of Content to provide strategic guidance on historical communications, including corporate messaging, branding initiatives, and anniversary planning.
· Maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned clients to ensure that content, deliverables, and proposals are relevant and engaging for their audiences.
· Conduct or oversee archival and historical research—both internally at Heritage Werks and through external sources—to document client histories, producing reports such as story banks, timelines, and other research-based materials.
· Collaborate with clients and the Client Services team to identify and develop new project opportunities, including expanding existing scopes and proposing new initiatives.
· Work alongside the Creative Department to provide heritage content, including setting storytelling strategies, curating images and artifacts, and crafting narratives for digital and interactive experiences such as virtual vaults, websites, e-learning programs, and touchscreen displays.
· Partner with the Associate Director of Research to ensure research requests related to assigned clients are addressed efficiently, accurately, and comprehensively.
· Conduct oral history interviews or coordinate with interviewers to establish interview agendas based on client needs, supported by thorough background research.
· Advise clients and internal teams on filling archival gaps through oral histories and story capture programs, including identifying key topics and crafting interview questions.
· Supervise and delegate research and content development tasks to brand historians, research specialists, and freelance contributors as needed.
· Support the Managing Director of Content and Content Team Lead in maintaining execution standards and refining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Content Department.
· Inform Client Services team members on project progress, ensuring clear communication with clients regarding updates and deliverables.
· Provide consultation across Heritage Werks teams on initiatives related to client storytelling, such as archival collection strategies, digital content organization, and communication positioning.
· Trained historian with archival research expertise and a strong understanding of American and global history.
· MA in history, or related field is required. PhD is preferred.
· Minimum of four (4) years interpreting history topics for non-academic audiences, with preferred experience in brand or sports museums, history museum education, or business fields such as PR, communications, or consulting.
· Minimum of two (2) years leading research-based projects and coordinating with team members toward a shared outcome.
· Familiarity with digital content strategy, museum exhibits, and/or image licensing is a plus.
· Proficient in articulating and writing with expertise on topics such as business history, popular culture, and/or sports history.
· Exceptional interpersonal skills with outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
· Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a remote structured and matrixed environment.
· On-camera interview experience is a plus
