Orthodox Part-Time Educator at Harvard Hillel - Spring 2025

Harvard Hillel is looking for a dynamic educator to help build a warm, compelling Orthodox community for students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will make Jewish tradition meaningful to students, especially female Orthodox students, through teaching, mentorship, and pastoral care.  They will be an exemplar within a pluralistic community and use the deep wisdom of Judaism and Torah to inspire the Jewish community and the wider Harvard community.  They will guide student leaders within the Orthodox Student Minyan, fostering personal religious growth, Jewish observance, and leadership on campus.  

This role would begin on January 27th, 2025, and conclude May 7th, 2025.

Key Responsibilities

• Jewish Education: The educator will be at Hillel one night a week to teach a one-hour class to female students. The educator will also work with student leaders to plan and execute Rosh Chodesh events at least twice over the course of the semester.
• Pastoral Care: The educator will stay at Harvard Hillel for an additional hour before/after the weekly class for “office hours.” The educator will also be available for pastoral and halakhic consults throughout the week, including via text and phone.

Altogether, this role would be 3-4 hours a week with a pay scale of $2,500-$4,000 for the semester depending on experience.

This role requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to create compelling study experiences for students, a deep fluency and identification with Orthodox Judaism, and a passion for engaging with the diversity found at Harvard Hillel’s university setting.

This role will report to the Campus Rabbi for monthly supervision and would be expected to abide by Hillel’s guidelines for financial and ethical behavior.  The ideal candidate will:

• Possess significant Jewish postsecondary schooling.
• Have experience in Jewish education in both big-tent and advanced contexts.
• Care deeply about the spiritual well-being of each member of our community, and be willing and able to make time for personal conversations for guidance and support.
• Demonstrate fluency, passion, and personal identification with Orthodox Judaism, halakha, and Torah.

We would particularly appreciate applicants who live in the Cambridge/Somerville area. Applicants who do not live within Shabbos walking distance will still be considered.
