Director of Product Management

What We’re Building

Honeycomb is the observability platform for teams who manage software that matters. Send any data to our one-of-a-kind data store, solve problems with all the relevant context, and fix issues before your customers find them. Honeycomb is the unified, fast, and collaborative choice for engineering teams who care about customer experience to get the answers they need, quickly. We are passionate about consumer-quality developer tools and excited to build technology that raises our industry’s expectations of what our tools can do for us. We’re working with well known companies like HelloFresh, Slack, LaunchDarkly, and Vanguard and more across a range of industries. This is an exciting time in our trajectory, as we’ve closed Series D funding, scaled past the 200-person mark, and were named to Forbes’ America’s Best Startups of 2022 and 2023!

In this Director of Product Management role, you'll be a force multiplier for our product organization, leading both through the growth and development of your teams and through the products they build. You'll create an environment where product managers thrive, grow, and deliver exceptional value to customers. Leading a group of empowered product teams focused on making Honeycomb immediately valuable to new users, you'll build high-trust, high-accountability environments where teams are oriented toward outcomes rather than output, practicing continuous discovery and delivering value in small batches.

You are a leader who believes great products come from investing in great people. You know how to help product managers develop their craft while maintaining high standards for outcomes. You understand that sustainable velocity comes from empowered teams working in small batches with tight customer feedback loops. Most importantly, you know how to grow and develop product leaders who can balance customer empathy with business acumen.

You are a leader that can catalyze positive change. Satya Nadella’s three leadership expectations should resonate strongly: you bring clarity to those you work with, generate energy, not only on your own teams but across the company, and finally, you find a way to deliver success, to make things happen.

Who We Are

We come for the impact, and stay for the culture! We’re a talented, opinionated, passionate, fiercely inclusive, and responsible group of bees. We have conviction and we strive to live our values every day. We want our people to do what they truly love amongst a team of highly talented (but humble) peers.

How We Work

We are a remote-first company, which means we believe it is not where you sit, but how you deliver that matters most. We invest in our people and care about how you orient to our culture and processes. At the same time we imbue a lot of trust, autonomy, and accountability from Day 1. #LI-Remote

We can hire for this role in the United States and Canada.

What You’ll Do In the Role:

Reporting to the VP of Product, you'll lead the product management function for one of our product domains, including instrumentation, frontend observability, and initial customer experience.

You'll drive our product strategy for customer acquisition and early success, defining how we can make observability immediately valuable to new users.

As a hands-on product leader, you'll immerse yourself in the Day 0 to Day 1 experience of engineers adopting Honeycomb and help your team create compelling onboarding experiences.

As a member of the R&D leadership team, you'll build strong working relationships with peer directors and ensure smooth handoffs as customers progress from Land to Expand phases.

You'll define and promote practices that make Honeycomb instantly accessible while setting customers up for long-term success.

You'll establish KPIs that measure the impact of early customer experience improvements, from first contact through successful activation.

You'll collaborate across domains to ensure a coherent customer journey from Day 0 through Day 2 and beyond.

What You’ll Bring:

People Leadership Experience:

Several years of product management leadership experience with a demonstrated passion for developing talent

Track record of growing product managers into strong leaders through clear feedback and coaching

Experience creating high-trust, high-accountability environments where teams excel

Excellence in mentoring product practitioners at various stages of their careers

Product Leadership Experience:

Proven experience crafting and advocating for an ambitious, inspiring product vision - we'd love to see examples

Strong foundation in continuous discovery practices and leading teams to practice them effectively

Deep experience in product discovery, experimentation, and validation

Track record of delivering significant business outcomes through product work

Technical & Business Acumen:

Strong connection to business outcomes and clear vision for how product management drives a company’s mission

Experience with technical products and enterprise sales cycles

Background in developer platforms, observability, or adjacent spaces is valuable

Personal Qualities:

Relentless curiosity about users - you deeply understand their pains and motivations

Natural ability to communicate product strategy and make complex technical concepts accessible

Exceptional communication skills with ability to present product decisions clearly to diverse audiences

Proactive, collaborative mindset with proven ability to thrive in dynamic environments
