Assistant Director of Therapy

POSITION PURPOSE

Under general supervision of the Director of Therapy Services, the Assistant Director organizes and manages the daily operations of all therapies including inpatient and outpatient Physical, Occupational, Speech and Cardiac Rehab

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees daily operations of inpatient and outpatient therapy.
  • Ensures all policies and procedures meet requirements of accrediting and regulatory agencies. Ensures at a minimum a triennial review. Policies and procedures promote the effective, appropriate, and safe care of patients.
  • Establishes work schedules and assignments to ensure coverage as demonstrated by maintaining appropriate staff ratios within approved budgetary guidelines while ensuring safe, quality patient care.  Reviews and revises staffing plan annually.
  • Provides/assists with provision of education based on needs determined through venues such as Performance Improvement, regulatory agencies, and risk management occurrences.  Assists in the training and development of all new personnel.  
  • Coaches, counsels or disciplines staff to ensure quality of work and adherence to hospital policies and procedures and compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Ensures completion of all employee records including but not limited to: payroll, performance evaluations, competencies, personnel action requests etc.
  • Follows the chain of command, escalating issues and/or seeking guidance as needed with appropriate sources, including appropriate delegation of necessary items.
  • Demonstrates competence in working in staff role as needed.
  • Maintains department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Presents monthly staff meetings to include infection control, performance improvement, safety, new or revised policies & procedures, and any other item affecting the staff role. Minutes are electronically forwarded monthly to the HRD.
  • Conducts or participates in training medical and nursing personnel and other staff in physical therapy techniques and objectives.
  • Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS

All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members.  Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s degree in Physical Therapy required, DPT preferred.

Experience: Two years of hospital-based Therapy experience required.

Licensure/Certification: Current Physical Therapist license required.  Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment, before patient care is administered independently.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing & walking. 

Occasional: reaching, bending, squatting, climbing kneeling, twisting.

Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature. 

Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
