Software Engineer II/Sr Software Engineer
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a talented and motivated front-end engineer to join the Software Group within Iambic. In this role you will work in a highly collaborative team focused on creating front-end technologies that leverage robotics, lab automation, and machine learning for drug discovery. You will focus on platform capabilities that support lab operations, driving innovation and operational excellence in the process, and interact not only with other engineers but also with laboratory scientists in a range of disciplines. While we prefer candidates based in San Diego to facilitate direct access to our users and lab facilities, we are open to considering applicants located anywhere in the United States.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and implement modular capabilities within an existing software platform to support lab operations, leveraging React.js or TypeScript for development.
Collaborate with stakeholders, including users and product managers, to gather customer needs and work backward from these requirements to deliver effective technical solutions.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of front-end and back-end functionalities, including implementing or enhancing backend services and APIs (Python experience is a plus).
Conduct code reviews for pull requests to ensure quality and adherence to best practices in related areas.
Contribute to technical discussions, architectural decisions, and promoting software best practices such as version control, code review, testing, and documentation.
Clearly communicate in meetings and company demos, at a level suited to the audience.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Experience:
8+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong focus on front-end development and full-stack integration.
Proven expertise in front-end development using React.js or TypeScript.
Extensive experience in lab informatics development or scientific software development.
Demonstrated success in industry roles, preferably with startup experience.
Hands-on experience with Python is highly desirable.
Familiarity with Agile development processes is a nice-to-have.
Skills:
Strong problem-solving abilities and technical leadership skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration capabilities.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving priorities.
