Intrepid College Prep is a network of free, college preparatory public charter schools located in the Antioch area of Greater Nashville, Tennessee. We educate scholars at two campuses: Opportunity Academy Middle School and Independence Academy High School. Our 5-12 model ensures that scholars have the opportunity to engage in a rigorous, college-preparatory education for eight years prior to their transition to college and the professional opportunities that follow. We are an open-enrollment school, which means that our scholars do not have to take an entrance test or pay tuition to enroll.

Instructional Coaching at Intrepid College Prep Schools

Intrepid College Prep recognizes the need for teachers to have phenomenal instructional leaders and seeks the right candidate to support teachers in their pursuit of high student growth and achievement. The Assistant Principal of Specialized Instruction will work with the Executive Principal, other Assistant Principals, and Instructional Deans to build a school culture where mastery of standards, achievement data, and teacher development are used to achieve breakthrough learning for Exceptional Education students. The Assistant Principal of Specialized Instruction will lead teacher development through meeting facilitation, observations, and providing coaching and feedback to teachers on specialized instruction.


Eligibility Requirements

Tennessee Teaching Certification, with track record of data-driven achievement.    


Assistant Principal of Special Populations Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead oversight of curriculum development and improvement alongside student assessment (internal and external) and teacher development under the direction of the Senior Director of Academics.
  • Supervise the daily instructional work of teachers on coaching load.
  • Conduct teacher observations and provide immediate feedback on performance based on predetermined criteria of success specific to Exceptional Education and Multilanguage Learner students.
  • Communicate regularly with the Executive Principal and Senior Director of Academics concerning student achievement, teacher development, evaluation, and curriculum design.
  • Assist in designing a vertically-aligned scope and sequence with clear, scaffolded outcomes aligned to the TN & Common Core standards alongside the Executive Principal and under the direction of the Senior Director of Academics.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Coaches, other Assistant Principals, Executive Principal and Senior Director of Academics to use systems for data analysis and data action following all internal and external assessments.
  • Seek and share curriculum best practices for special populations from other schools and professional journals under the direction of the Senior Director of Academics.
  • Model instructional strategies to improve student engagement, comprehension, and develop an effective instructional environment.
  • Ensure alignment between teachers’ classroom actions and the school’s mission and educational philosophy.
  • Work with teachers to problem-solve specific instructional challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records and data pertaining to local, state, and federal laws (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, FERPA, compliance).
  • Lead Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)  and Individualized Learning  Plan (ILP) meetings and ensure compliance oversight for IEPs and ILPs.
  • Lead the Exceptional Education (EE)/Multi Language Learner (MLL) Team in identifying appropriate services, supports, and accommodations to meet student needs based on data and instruction.
  • Manage and oversee the RtI process, including: (1) Participation in RtI-Academics (RTI-A) meetings (2) Facilitation of RtI-Behavior meetings (3) Preparation of agendas and data collection (4) Review of student data for intervention planning (5) Decision-making on student entry and exit from RTI-A (6) Maintenance and updates of RTI-A plans (7) Parent communication and meeting facilitation (8) Progress tracking of interventions
  • Manage the identification process of MLLs, including: (1) Oversight of service delivery and monitoring of ILPs (2) English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) screening, assessment, and transitional years tracking
  • Own agenda creation and lead team meetings, including: (1) Data collection and staff training (2) Problem-solving for SWDs & MLLs across grade levels
  • Manage the identification process of Students with Disabilities (SWDs), including: (1) Oversight of service delivery, IEP timelines, alternative assessments, and screening processes (2) Monitoring related service providers (3) Consulting on consequences and discipline decisions for SWDs (4) Ensuring consistency with Easy IEP usage (5) Auditing and analyzing IEP data for trends and gaps (6) Providing feedback, professional development, and coaching on IEP creation and implementation
  • Provide coaching and support to staff based on survey data, observation data, and student outcomes.
  • Deliver feedback to all staff regarding student matters related to IEPs, 504s, ILPs, etc.
  • Facilitate and provide staff development touchpoints for teachers and fellow leaders.
  • Observe and document staff performance, providing actionable feedback.
  • Coach paraprofessionals to ensure effective student support.


Successful Assistant Principal of Special Populations candidates possess the following characteristics:

Compensation

We offer a generous compensation package, including full health benefits.  All staff members are equipped with the tools needed to succeed, including a dedicated work space, laptop computer, email, high-speed internet access, and all necessary supplies. Compensation is highly competitive; teachers are eligible to participate in the MNPS Retirement System.


Base salaries are determined by the ICP salary scale. Placement on the salary scale is determined by years of relevant, teaching experience. We do not negotiate salaries because of research that demonstrates the resulting impact of inequitable pay, primarily for women and people of color. Placement on the salary scale is solely determined by relevant experience.


Starting salary (Year 0) for a teacher with zero years of experience starts at $51,292. Please reach out to the hiring team for inquires regarding the salary scale.
