Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

A WMS Manager ensures that the WMS is efficient, reliable, and aligned with business needs, ultimately improving warehouse productivity and reducing operational costs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Analysis & Planning

  • Gather business requirements from stakeholders (warehouse managers, logistics teams, IT staff).
  • Analyze warehouse processes (inventory control, order fulfillment, shipping, and receiving).
  • Identify system needs, gaps, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop functional and technical specifications for the WMS.

System Design & Development

  • Design workflows and system architecture to enhance warehouse efficiency.
  • Define user roles, access levels, and automation features.
  • Collaborate with software developers and IT teams to ensure system alignment with business
  • Ensure compatibility with existing ERP, inventory, and supply chain systems.

Implementation & Integration

  • Lead the deployment of the WMS in the warehouse environment.
  • Coordinate system integration with barcode scanners, conveyor systems, and automated
  • Perform system testing, debugging, and validation.
  • Develop data migration strategies from old systems to the new WMS.

User Training & Support

  • Create user manuals, training materials, and conduct training sessions for warehouse staff.
  • Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
  • Act as a bridge between warehouse staff and IT teams to ensure smooth operations.

Performance Monitoring & Optimization

  • Monitor system performance, data accuracy, and warehouse productivity.
  • Implement system upgrades, patches, and performance improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and security protocols.

Reporting & Decision Support

  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools for inventory tracking, order status, and efficiency metrics.
  • Analyze warehouse data to provide insights for decision-making.
  • Recommend process improvements based on data analysis.

Compliance & Security

  • Ensure the WMS follows industry regulations and data security protocols.
  • Implement role-based access controls and data encryption measures.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education:           Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, logistics, or supply chain            management. High school diploma or GED required.
Required Experience:         Minimum 5 years in supply chain, logistics, or related field is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.   

 

REQUIRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

Warehouse Management Systems (WMS):

  • Practical experience with various WMS platforms through online courses, internships, or on-the-job training.

Inventory Management:

  • Develop a strong understanding of inventory control, forecasting, and optimization techniques. 

Supply Chain Management:

  • Understand the entire supply chain process, from sourcing to delivery. 

Logistics:

  • Be proficient in logistics principles, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution. 

Leadership and Communication:

  • Develop strong leadership and communication skills to effectively work with a team and collaborate with stakeholders. 

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:

  • Develop strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve issues in the warehouse. 

Change Management:

  • Understand the importance of change management in implementing new technologies and processes. 

Technology and Operations Solutions:

  • Gain knowledge of warehouse automation technologies and other relevant solutions. 

 

Additional Information

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. However, the vast amount of work is conducted in a climate-controlled office. Travel may be required.
