Vice President of Business Development - Healthcare Services

Our client is a physician-led healthcare organization providing specialized pulmonary, critical care, sleep services, and hospitalist coverage across acute and post-acute care settings. With operations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, this growing organization is targeting significant expansion over the next 5-7 years and is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Business Development to drive their growth strategy.

Opportunity

As Vice President of Business Development, you will report directly to the CEO and play a crucial role in driving the organization's growth through acquisition of new hospital contracts. This newly created position will allow the CEO to focus on medical direction and strategy while you take ownership of the business development pipeline. You will build relationships with hospital executives, develop tailored proposals, and close contracts with healthcare facilities nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with hospitals and healthcare systems requiring critical care, hospitalist, or pulmonary services
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of acute and post-acute care hospital leads
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with hospital executives, medical directors, and other key decision-makers
  • Oversee the full sales lifecycle—from prospecting and relationship building to proposal development, negotiation, and contract execution
  • Collaborate with the CEO (who will join key meetings) to develop tailored solutions for prospective partners
  • Monitor industry trends and the competitive landscape to position the organization effectively in the market
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences and networking events to enhance brand visibility
  • Close a minimum of two new hospital contracts annually as part of the long-term national growth strategy
  • Support transition of newly signed clients to the operations team, ensuring smooth onboarding and client satisfaction
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or strategic partnerships in the healthcare industry
  • Proven success in closing multi-million-dollar service contracts with hospitals
  • Experience working directly with hospital executives and C-suite decision-makers
  • Strong understanding of acute and post-acute care dynamics
  • Familiarity with healthcare contract structures and hospital operations
  • Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field
  • Experience in physician services, pulmonary/critical care, or hospital staffing specifically
  • Experience with CRM systems and sales analytics
  • Consultative sales approach
  • Competitive base salary range: $140,000-$170,000
  • Performance-based commission structure tied to new hospital contracts closed (potentially $10K-$25K per deal or percentage of first-year revenue)
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Opportunity to grow with the company as it expands nationally

This position offers a unique opportunity for a motivated healthcare business development professional to:

  • Join a growing organization with significant autonomy
  • Partner directly with the CEO to drive strategic growth
  • Make a direct impact on company expansion and success
  • Benefit from an attractive commission structure based on successful contracts
  • Grow professionally as the organization scales nationally

Target Market

The primary focus will be community hospitals with approximately 150-250 beds, often located outside major city centers but sometimes part of larger health systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable identifying leads, arranging initial meetings, and working alongside the CEO, who will join for key discussions to provide medical expertise.
