About KIPP NYC
KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. We partner with families and communities to create joyful and rigorous schools in pursuit of a more just world. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx, with a vision that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. Today, our network consists of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive program to support our students and alumni in choosing and preparing for the educational and career paths that fit their goals and sense of purpose. KIPP NYC currently serves more than 12,000 students and alumni, has a staff of more than 1,000 (8% of whom are alumni), and continues to grow!
About KIPP Forward Postsecondary Success Collaborative
The Postsecondary Success Collaborative, often referred to as “The Collaborative,” works with graduates (“alumni”) of KIPP, Achievement First, and a growing number of other select high school-serving organizations, to empower them for success in college and their careers. Our Theory of Impact was formulated utilizing a design thinking approach with our alumni, as well as research of the most effective Comprehensive Approach to Student Success (CASS) and career readiness programs. Utilizing breakthrough college and career strategies, we aim to help our alumni persist in and graduate from college and CTE programs, and upon completion, transition to strong first jobs.
About our Nudge Enabled Remote Advising (NERA) Program
The Collaborative supports students for six years following high school graduation. In the first two years, students are paired with a near-peer College Success Fellow who provides intensive, in-person advising. Beginning in year three, students transition into our NERA program, a tech-enabled model of continued postsecondary support. Through NERA, experienced advisors use nudge-texting technology to deliver timely guidance and resources related to key persistence factors—academic progress, financial aid, social-emotional well-being, and career readiness. Alumni can also schedule one-on-one advising sessions as needed, ensuring personalized support continues throughout their postsecondary journey.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced advisor to join our growing NERA team! This advisor will manage a caseload of just over 1,000 alumni entering their third year post–high school and support them through college graduation and career launch. The role centers on delivering guidance across key areas—academic, financial, social-emotional, and career—primarily via text using nudge technology, with supplemental support provided through phone, Zoom, or in-person meetings as needed. In addition to direct advising, the advisor will work closely with the NERA Program Manager to design and implement strategies that drive continuous improvement and increase alumni engagement. We’re looking for someone who can commit to at least two years as we scale the program to reach thousands more alumni. This role reports to the NERA Program Manager.
