Data Analyst & Programmer (Contractor)

This is a junior data analyst and programmer position. This role is responsible for supporting the growth and development of our client projects, with a particular focus on conducting data analysis, dashboard review & design, and programming for international and domestic development programs and policies.

This role has no direct reports and reports directly to the project lead(s). While operating as part of a broader team, the Data Analyst & Programmer will work closely with several members of the Limestone team including economists and leadership. This is an excellent role for a data analyst to work with a professional and innovative company that is making a positive impact in the world. 

The person in this role should be detail-oriented, passionate about what they do, and have excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate has strong programming and computer science skills and experience with Python and DevOps. They are team players who can work independently while part of a complex and varied team.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets from various sources (e.g., surveys, administrative data, financial reports).
  • Apply statistical methods and econometric techniques to analyze data and generate insights.
  • Develop, maintain, and review online interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain code for data extraction, transformation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Support data collection, quality control, and analysis to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with organizational and client standards.
  • Adhere to and uphold the values, quality standards, and ethical principles of Limestone and its clients.
  • Complete assigned tasks on time and within budget, proactively communicating project status, risks, and issues to managers and directors.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the evolving needs of the role.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python, R, DevOps for data analysis and programming is essential
  • Experience with interactive dashboards and web-based data tools
  • Understanding of data security, compliance, and ethical considerations in handling sensitive datasets.
  • Experience with data visualization tools is an asset 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience applying statistical and econometric methods.
  • Experience working with large datasets and conducting data cleaning, transformation, and analysis.
  • Ability to write efficient, well-documented, and reproducible code.
  • Strong communication skills to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a consulting environment.
  • Understanding of cost-benefit analysis (CBA) in an economics or policy context is an asset. 
  • Acute attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

Other Details 

  • Contract type: Consulting contract, part-time and casual. LOE will fluctuate. Work requests with scope and expected LOE will be made via email on an ongoing basis.
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
  • Salary: $25-$35 per hour based on experience
  • Location: Remote or in-office (office located in Kingston, Ontario)
