ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Administrator to manage and maintain our complex computer network. The Network Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of our entire IT infrastructure.


Reporting to the Director of IT, the Network Administrator will have a broad range of responsibilities, and will stay ahead of emerging technologies, industry standards, and security best practices, implementing them to meet the company's evolving needs in collaboration with the Director of Information Technology.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Server Management / Installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of physical and virtual servers (Hyper-V and other platforms). / Implementation and management of server clustering and load balancing for high availability and performance. / Server performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning to ensure optimal resource utilization.
  • Active Directory and User Management / Design, implementation, and administration of Active Directory (AD) structure, including forests, domains, and organizational units (OUs). / Management of AD objects (users, computers, groups) and their attributes. / Implementation and enforcement of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to manage user settings and security configurations.
  • Data Backup and RecoveryDesign and implementation of robust backup and recovery strategies, including full, incremental, and differential backups. / Management of tape rotation schedules and offsite storage of backup media. / Regular testing of backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Database Administration (MSSQL and Others) / Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) and other database systems. / Database performance monitoring, tuning, and query optimization. / Database backup, recovery, and replication.
  • Business Systems ManagementAdministration and support of critical business systems, including ERP, CRM, financial systems, ticketing systems, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and cloud-based applications. / Integration of business systems with other IT infrastructure components. / Troubleshooting and resolution of business system issues.
  • Email and Messaging Infrastructure (MS Exchange and Others) / Administration and support of Microsoft Exchange or other email and messaging platforms. / Management of mailboxes, distribution lists, and public folders. / Implementation and configuration of email security measures, including spam filtering and anti-malware protection.
  • Network Infrastructure / Design, implementation, and maintenance of network backbone, including switches, routers, and firewalls. / Configuration and management of virtual LANs (VLANs) and network segmentation. / Network performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Telecommunications and Remote Access / Management of telecommunications infrastructure, including voice, data, and video communications. / Configuration and support of remote access solutions, such as VPNs and remote desktop services. / Ensuring secure and reliable remote connectivity for employees and partners.
  • Network Security / Implementation and enforcement of network security policies and procedures. / Configuration and management of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and other security appliances. / Vulnerability scanning and penetration testing to identify and mitigate security risks.
  • Technology Security / Collaboration with the VP of IT to develop and implement technology security procedures. / User security awareness training and education. / Incident response and management in case of security breaches.
  • Software and Hardware Evaluation / Research and evaluation of new software and hardware solutions to meet business needs. / Collaboration with support staff to assess compatibility and integration requirements. / Preparation of cost-benefit analyses and recommendations for technology purchases.
  • Policy and Procedure Implementation / Collaboration with support staff to implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices. / Documentation of policies and procedures for reference and compliance. / Enforcement of policies and procedures to ensure consistency and security.
  • Endpoint Protection / Management of patch schedules for operating systems and applications. / Deployment and configuration of antivirus and anti-malware software. / Configuration and management of local firewalls on desktops and servers.
  • Other Network Services / Administration and configuration of DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) for IP address assignment. / Management of DNS (Domain Name System) for name resolution. / Configuration and support of Remote Desktop Services for remote access to desktops and applications.
  • Documentation / Creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation of the network environment, including network diagrams, hardware inventories, and configuration settings. / Development of "How-To" documentation and user guides to assist end users.
  • User Support / Providing desktop support to all users in the office, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network connectivity issues. / Providing remote support to remote offices and mobile users. / Escalation of complex issues to higher-level support or vendors as needed.
  • Network Performance Optimization / Continuous monitoring of network performance and identification of bottlenecks. / Implementation of performance tuning measures to optimize network speed and reliability. / Proactive capacity planning to ensure the network can meet future demands.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong knowledge of the MS Windows environment including, but not limited to, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Exchange
  • 2+ years working in/with MS SQL and SQL-based business systems
  • Strong knowledge of virtual systems, including Hyper-V & VMware
  • Knowledge of backup systems (experience with Veritas a plus)
  • 3+ years working with IP networking, including subnetting and VLANs
  • Experience with Office 365 & Azure.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services
  • Demonstrated ability to solve advanced problems and to organize and track tasks to completion
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Availability outside of working hours in case of emergencies and upgrades, with the ability to be reached by cell phone at all times.
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to work onsite in our NYC offices 2-3 days p/week


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certifications: Network+ Certification, Microsoft Certifications, or AWS
  • Associates Degree or Bachelor’s degree
  • SharePoint experience


$80,000 - $92,000 a year
This role is eligible for a 7.5% annual bonus, based on performance.

Using the English language, this person must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos.   Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate--both in writing and orally--with a professional demeanor. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.  The employee will also be required to write and type.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  


COMPENSATION STATEMENT

Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.


For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
