Contract

Meeting Tomorrow is a 20-year-old company with a growing team of 85 friendly employees. We’re headquartered in Chicago, with 80% percent of our team working remotely in cities all over the United States. We produce in-person, hybrid, and virtual events and rent equipment that brings people together. Our clients range from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses, and we pride ourselves on providing the best customer experience in the events industry.

The opportunity:

We're looking for skilled freelance Technical Directors to assist in leading the technical execution of live events. In this role, you'll manage AV setups, direct technical teams, and oversee event operations to ensure flawless execution from setup through teardown. You'll collaborate with clients, vendors, and event staff to meet all technical requirements and resolve any challenges that arise. Strong leadership, a technical background, and the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic environments are essential to delivering high-quality event experiences.

In order to be successful in our industry, you must be passionate about live events and enjoy helping customers execute their creative vision. We hope to find someone who is excited about being behind the scenes and on-site!

What you’re responsible for:

Oversee all technical aspects of live events, ensuring seamless execution of AV and production elements.

Coordinate with technical crews on setups, operations, and breakdowns.

Troubleshoot technical issues and resolve equipment-related problems during events.

Guide the overall show operation, ensuring smooth transitions and adherence to event timelines.

Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal staff to meet technical requirements and event goals.

Call shows and manage live event graphics, as needed.

Provide leadership in high-pressure environments, maintaining clear communication and control.

Ensure the technical team follows safety protocols and best practices during setup and event execution.

Who you are:

In this role, you will support a diverse range of corporate events. Your expertise in managing high-stakes environments and ensuring smooth technical execution will be key to delivering exceptional experiences for our clients. Here’s what else we’re looking for:

On-site experience at live events.  The majority of the role is working with our clients and local partners to ensure our clients’ needs are met or exceeded, and their expectations are transparent to everyone working on a particular event.  Onsite experience is critical to understanding how best to approach each event’s unique challenges.

Clear communicator.  You’re able to clearly and effectively communicate. You practice actively listening and can adapt your communication style to anyone you’re working with.

Organized. There’s a lot to keep track of between the shows you’ll work on with Meeting Tomorrow. Our clients' events can be complex, with several moving parts, different stakeholders, and multiple presenters.  Keeping information and details organized is important while communicating with multiple Meeting Tomorrow team members, technical crew, and clients.

Creative. Able to think outside the box when challenges arise.

Resourceful. You’re technically savvy and have experience operating various video switchers, audio mixers, lighting consoles, and other production equipment, giving you the ability to efficiently and effectively troubleshoot technical issues and find solutions.

Dynamic. You’ll need to switch gears often and be comfortable wearing multiple hats at times.

At Meeting Tomorrow, our mission is to foster a culture of respect and affection. We embrace our differences and are committed to having a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. We’re an Equal Opportunity Employer that believes in second chances and strongly encourage BIPOC, women, LGBTQIA, veterans, persons with disabilities, formerly incarcerated, and all other individuals to apply.

What makes Meeting Tomorrow’s culture so special is the people, and we look for candidates who are a match for our company’s core values: commitment, kindness, and humility. If those words describe you and you see yourself in this posting, you’re ready to apply!
