JEDI Office Graduate Assistant (AY 24-25 C91247)

Provides administrative and programming support for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) education and programming concerning intersectional identities, harassment and discrimination claims related to Titles VI, VII, and IX, and other protected identities. Position will work closely with the Institutional JEDI Officer to develop and administer programs and educational initiatives. Incumbent will be expected to have access to the internet, remain organized, respect and maintain privacy and discretion regarding situations that may arise in reporting mechanisms (e.g., CBRT). 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Creating and maintaining a web-based ongoing list of DEI resources and projects currently available to students, staff, and faculty at the Institute, including resources offered by the College, and external events relevant to the mission of the Institute and JEDI Office; 
  • Assist with the development and adaptation of DEI education materials to meet the specific needs of our students, faculty and staff at MIIS; 
  • Research and develop programming initiatives; 
  • Research policies and best practices on a variety of civil rights related topics; 
  • Updating and maintaining the JEDI Office and BIPOC Voices webpages and social media; 
  • Regularly checking the reporting mechanisms for issues, questions, comments, and concerns (e.g., CBRT) to bring to the attention of the JEDI Office; 
  • Liaising with the Student Advocacy Council JEDI Committee; 
  • Serving as a point of contact for identity-based student groups, keeping lines of communication open to collaborate for events and programs; 
  • Attending and taking detailed JEDI Council meeting notes, responsible for communication of meeting notes and action items to Council members; 
  • Participate in the regular life and activities of the JEDI Office as necessary and/or assigned, including but not limited to assisting with meeting and event planning, preparation of materials, etc. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Graphic design; written and interpersonal communication skills; high-level organizational skills; self-directed. 
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the area of justice, equity, and inclusion, civil rights, anti-discrimination, and will have been involved at some level in related initiatives at MIIS. 

 

Experience: 

  • Experience with graphic design, including print materials and web-based design; 
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and organizational skills; 
  • Experience conducting research in various areas—policies, best practices, etc.—and presenting the choices coherently and with a well-reasoned recommendation. 
  • Experience planning and staging educational programs for audience/participants including faculty, staff, students, and the general public. 

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • MIIS student 
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Canva, Drupal, and/or WordPress, and other software and social media as necessary 
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. 

 

Approximately 15-20 hours/week anticipated, with flexibility based on need. High level of self-direction required. 

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.


Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
