The summer Resident Assistant (RA) is a graduate student who serves as a member of the Residential Life Staff and reports to the Assistant Director of Residential Life. The RA is responsible for orienting guests to Munras Hall and the MIIS community, while helping to foster a sense of community throughout the hall. The RA is responsible for informing residents of community expectations, while upholding and enforcing all MIIS policies. The RA will be familiar with emergency services, assist with emergency response, and crisis situations, and accurately document and report all incidents.  The RA will serve as the on-site, on-call staff person on evenings and weekends in the community throughout the summer and troubleshoot when issues arise.  The RA also manages administrative tasks and completes projects for the summer and in preparation for the academic year in partnership with the Assistant Director of Residential Life. The applicant must be a current MIIS student and planning to graduate in December 2025, or after.

The Summer RA will:

  • Work up to 20-25 hours per week
  • Conduct pre-move-in room checks for residents and submit all accompanying documentation. 
  • Conduct community rounds at least two times per night, engaging with residents and guests, and reporting any issues that arise, whether facility concerns or other. 
  • Facilitate community building opportunities for MIIS residents, and engage in intentional interactions with residents at least once per week. 
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Residential Life with group and resident check-ins and check-outs as needed 
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Residential Life with office tasks, Fall move-in preparation and special projects. 
  • Serve on-call and assist with after-hour emergencies as they arise, including serving on a duty roation during the following:
      • 8:30pm-10:30pm Monday-Thursday
      • 10pm-2am on Friday and Saturday
      • other shifts as assigned, depending on groups in residence and needs. 

The summer RA will have the room fee waived and will be paid $16.50/hour. 

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.


Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
