Calling all superstars! We are looking for a dynamic, scrappy, friendly and hardworking self-starter to join our small and nimble team! We are a successful real estate investment company, focused on multi-family, mixed-use, retail, industrial and office assets.
We are considering qualified Accountant applicants to support Bay Area operations. The Accountant works to support accounting processes for several entities and acquisitions.
The ideal candidate for this role will be resourceful, familiar with property assets and acquisitions, tenant improvements, leasing evaluations, asset and capital improvement budgeting, financial analysis related to acquisitions and dispositions, investor/owner communications for our company wide portfolio, financial reporting and statements, and ideally possess an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent Commercial Real Estate business experience.
Key Responsibilities:- Full charge bookkeeping duties
- Process AP/AR such as tenant payments, vendors, prepare bank deposits
- Be familiar with payroll and employee expense reimbursements
- Set up new tenants, vendors and properties in our property management platform, AppFolio
- Assist our Accounting Team with preparing the monthly/quarterly financial reports
- Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Assist our 3rd party CPA in year-end tax preparation and K1's
- Close out books for properties sold and processing distributions to investors
- Process CAM reconciliations and research and resolve tenant or vendor billing inquiries
- File documentation according to the company’s document retention policy
- Creates and maintains a documented system of bookkeeping policies and procedures
- Communicates with Small Bank Services, Association, Investment Team, Vendors and Tenants and accounting department
- Process/prepare monthly credit card reconciliations and reimbursements
- Manage common area maintenance (CAM) reconciliations
- Report, file and communicate delinquency notices
- Work in Asana platform for approvals and invoice filings
- Prepare monthly/quarterly financial reports
- Prepare annual budgets working with management team
- Establish and maintain trust accounts
- Research and resolve tenant or vendor billing inquiries
- Ensures that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
- Ensures that accounts receivables are collected promptly
- Maintain chart of accounts along with a system of controls over accounting transactions
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal reporting requirements and tax filings
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
- Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent Commercial Real Estate business experience
- Minimum 2 Years general Accounting experience, preferably Full Charge from a small to mid sized company where you touched all aspects of accounting - AP, AR, Payroll, cutting checks, bank and GL recons, reports, etc
- Property management and/or real estate investment background will be a major plus but not required
- You will fit in best if you enjoy a fast-paced, rapidly expanding company where you can wear many hats and contribute to scaling internal controls and systems as we grow
- Better than average knowledge of Excel spreadsheets - use of pivot tables, v- look-up functions is required
- Knowledge of equity grants, brokerage commissions, Limited Partnerships, and syndication's are bonus points
- Strong understanding of real estate operations and its translation to financial reporting
- Minimum 65 WPM typing speed
- Execute daily tasks with high degree of professionalism
- Remote job experience a plus
- Experience with Asana
- Basic knowledge of double entry GL accounting and general tech savviness are essential
