Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

NBC News Digital is looking for an editor to join its social team in London. The editor will drive NBCNews.com's social presence, namely on Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, WhatsApp, and Reddit, distribute breaking news across appropriate channels, and develop strong visual rollouts for our best journalism. This position will also at times include curating the homepage, app, and writing breaking news alerts. The editor will handle stories from all newsroom sections including breaking news, world, politics, business, sports, and lifestyle, with a focus on strategizing distribution and enhancing engagement of our stories. 

The editor will play a critical role in shaping morning coverage across platforms, confidently making decisions on what goes next, where, and how. Given the role’s hours, the editor must be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently and knows when to ask for support. A working knowledge of U.S. politics and current affairs is essential, as is an understanding of U.S. media. 


The ideal candidate will be a strong writer and editor with excellent news judgment and a deep understanding of social platforms. Strong communication skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines are crucial. 

This is a full-time position based in London. The hours are Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. GMT. This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities


Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Deliver NBC News journalism to our social audience across several platforms

● Frame and package stories from all sections of the newsroom, tailoring them to different social audiences 

● Plan and create distribution strategies for world stories across social and owned platforms

● Identify and contextualize key video moments 

● Coordinate with video and photo team to amplify our strongest visual elements 

● Write social copy, edit headlines, alerts, and contribute to newsletter production 

● Monitor social-specific analytics to inform story distribution and strategy 

● Ensure a seamless handover with the editors in Los Angeles and New York

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree or equivalent and comparable work experience 

● Proven experience in an international digital newsroom, preferably on a social team 

● Experience making visual content for social platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit

● A broad knowledge of current affairs, including US politics & affairs, international affairs, pop culture and sports 

● Must be comfortable working in a hybrid work environment

 

Desired Characteristics:

 

● Breaking news experience 

● Experience making visual content for social platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit

● Experience applying social analytics to inform strategies
