ROLE SUMMARY:

The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) is responsible for utilizing evidence based positive behavioral supports to enrich the lives of people by creating healthy and safe environments. Through teaching/modeling, BIS’ will empower and train staff in creating meaningful opportunities to: enhance people’s dignity, assist with decision making skills, teach prosocial replacement skills, and model/reinforce coping skills to reduce interfering behaviors.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments.
  • Develops and implements Behavior Support Plans in conjunction with input from the Program Planning Team.
  • Develops and implements Restrictive Behavior Support Plans under supervision of Licensed Psychologist.
  • Assesses and maintains behavioral data.
  • Completes and maintains paperwork in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintains regular supervision with Assistant Directors of Behavioral Health Services.
  • On a regular basis, meets with direct care staff to review behavioral health supports, including training and implementation of the plan and data collection.
  • Acts as a mentor to supporting staff and provides ongoing observations, modeling and training in areas of behavioral health supports.
  • Confers with supervisor to review cases and receive assignments.
  • As required and with specific training, assists with crisis intervention.
  • Attends Psychiatric appointments as needed.
  • Participates at screening/intake meetings for program and residential vacancies.
  • As required, presents Restrictive Behavior Support Plans with required consents to the Human Rights Committee for approval.
  • Provides clinical support to other programs and sites as needed.
  • Assists other Behavior Intervention Specialists as needed.
  • Performs various Psychological Assessments.
  • Reports and documents any events/activities that may hinder the health, safety and well-being of people (i.e., allegations of abuse, injuries, broken equipment, etc.).
  • As required, performs interview/assessments to assist in the investigative process for incident management.
  • Reports to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect. Additionally, must follow all agency incident policy and procedures.
  • Adheres to Federal and New York State regulations, agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook and agency and program training requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge in the field by obtaining ongoing professional development.
  • Functions as a member of the Program Planning Team and as needed, attends annual, semi-annual and team meetings.
  • Immediately contacts nursing in case of injury, seizure or changes in a person’s medical condition.
  • As required and with specialized training, drives agency vehicle and may use own vehicle on agency business.
  • Maintains First Aid, CPR and SCIP- R certification in addition to other required agency trainings.

SHIFT: Flex

SALARY: $69,462.00- $74,962per year

This position is benefit eligible and has generous time off.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in a clinical or treatment field in Psychology, Social Work, School Psychology, or Applied Psychology as it relates to human development and clinical interventions OR
  • Must have a national Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) and a Master’s degree in behavior analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by OPWDD OR
  • Must have a NYS license in Mental Health Counseling.

*All hires must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License at the time of hire.
